What We Do in the Shadows Season 6 Moves Forward By Embracing The Past
What We Do in the Shadows Season 6 premiered on Hulu on October 22, finding our favorite vampires adjusting to their new relationship with Guillermo and introducing a forgotten roommate. Beginning with a three-episode release, the final season of What We Do in the Shadows brings new depravity and some big challenges for the gang. A roommate left to sleep too long is awoken and forces Laszlo, Nadja, Nandor, and Collin Robinson to examine their choices and provokes them to strike out on new adventures.
A New Roommate Shakes Up The Dynamic
A new roommate joins the vampire household for What We Do in the Shadows Season 6, holding a mirror up to the gang and reminding them of their past aspirations for power. Jerry (Michael Patrick O’Brien) has been asleep since the 70’s and he awakens asking what’s been accomplished while he’s been slumbering. The questioning becomes a catalyst for the vampires of Staten Island, who feel a renewed urge to chase their dreams.
Everyone is moving into uncharted territory in What We Do in the Shadows Season 6, even Guillermo (Harvey Guillén). After not being able to be turned into a vampire in Season 5, Guillermo decides that he must strike out on his own and rejoin the human world, leaving the vampire household and getting himself a job. Needless to say, his attempts to re-establish himself as a regular person aren’t easy, and his vampire friends won’t leave him to his own devices, making his efforts a hilarious farce.
A Season Of Self-Reflection
Revisiting the past isn’t reserved for Guillermo in What We Do in the Shadows Season 6, with Laszlo (Matt Berry) returning to an old hobby of reanimating dead human body parts. Collin Robinson (Mark Proksch) is disappointed at the lack of connection between himself and Jerry and is inspired to seek companionship elsewhere while Nadja (Natasia Demetriou) makes Guillermo’s success in the human world her personal mission.
Feeling decidedly less relentless in What We Do in the Shadows Season 6 after failing to conquer Manhattan, Nandor (Kayvan Novak) is reminded of his bloody, murderous past, and he searches for a sense of accomplishment while struggling with his roommates over a small area of space that everyone wants for their own purposes.
Six Seasons And A Movie
REVIEW SCORE
The bumbling vampires are so hilarious because although they’re terrible at being vampires, they struggle with the same things as humans do. The vampires’ disappointments, regrets, and appetites in What We Do in the Shadows Season 6 are all reflections of our human struggles and poke fun at our lives in a hilarious way, from office politics to roommate drama. Seizing the day is at the center of the story this year, and the failures the characters experience are a relatable allegory to our mortal strivings.
The series still holds a 95 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes after six seasons, and fans are hoping that the final season will bring some of the big themes of human frailty to the front and give them the customary farcical treatment. If the first three episodes are any indication, the magic is still alive for one of the best comedies on TV. The three-episode premiere of What We Do in the Shadows Season 6 is streaming on Hulu, and new episodes will air on FX Tuesdays and will be available to stream on Hulu Wednesdays.
