Travis Kelce Is Getting A Blockbuster Action Comedy
Travis Kelce is trying his hand at acting next, as Deadline reported the NFL star is attached to an upcoming Lionsgate comedy titled Loose Cannons. The plot is being kept under wraps for now, but Timothy Dowling penned the script, and John Wick’s Chad Stahleski is set to produce for 87ElevenEntertainment alongside Jason Spitz and Alex Young. Lionsgate has yet to comment on the news.
Famous Beyond The Field
Travis Kelce is known by NFL fans for his role as the star tight end of the Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, but his profile was raised considerably among non-sports fans when he began dating pop superstar Taylor Swift. His popularity has apparently risen enough to nab him a role in his first feature film with Loose Cannons, though it won’t be the only acting role he has on the horizon. The sports star is also set to appear in Ryan Murphy’s upcoming horror drama Grotesquerie, though his role is being kept under wraps for now.
Teaming Up With Ryan Murphy
Grotesquerie is set to premiere on FX on September 25 and tells the story of a series of heinous crimes in a small town. The series follows Detective Lois Tryon (Niecy Nash-Betts), who feels like the crimes have personal connections to her as if the one committing them is actively taunting her. Along with Nash-Betts and Travis Kelce, Lesley Manville and Courtney B. Vance also star, and it should give us a glimpse at Kelce’s acting talents before we see him in Loose Cannons.
Murphy’s Stunt Casting Strikes Again
Murphy isn’t a stranger to stunt casting, someone not necessarily known for their acting skills, like Kim Kardashian in the latest season of American Horror Story. Some were impressed by her acting skills, while others felt the casting was off, so it remains to be seen how people feel about Travis Kelce in Grotesquerie and Loose Cannons. At the very least, both projects should draw a sizable audience of Swifties when they first premiere.
Game Show Host
Although Travis Kelce is trying his hand at a feature film for the first time in Loose Cannons, he has had some practice acting in many commercials, and he’s not camera shy, as evidenced by his gig as the host of Prime Video’s Are You Smarter Than a Celebrity. Kelce has also dipped into the world of Hollywood recently by executive producing the dark comedy My Dead Friend Zoe, which has already made a premiere at SXSW and is set to be released on November 1. Kelce also has a very successful podcast with his brother, Jason Kelce, called New Heights.
Following Other Sports Superstars
Travis Kelce’s turn in Loose Cannons comes right on the heels of another sports superstar, NBA’s Steph Curry, who recently starred in a sitcom series for Peacock called Mr. Throwback. Of course, Lebron James has also added plenty of acting to his resume in recent years with the Space Jam reboot and the Judd Apatow movie Trainwreck. For now, we’ll have to wait and see if acting skills are something that Kelce can add to his list of recent achievements.
