Sydney Sweeney On Why She Won’t Stop Pushing Boundaries
Sydney Sweeney, known for her work on Euphoria, The White Lotus, Madame Web, and Anyone But You, has earned the status of a s*x symbol. However, many among the crowd seem to struggle to separate the artists from the art and artistic portrayals, prompting the actress to open up about doing nude scenes, saying that she won’t stop doing them.
Sydney Sweeney Can’t Be Stopped
For context, Sydney Sweeney sparked a lot of controversy, especially in regards to Euphoria and its creators’ use of nudity, which some believe is too much. Regardless of what your stance is regarding on-screen nudity, people shouldn’t forget that actors are portraying characters written by others that serve a particular narrative, and calling someone a s*x symbol just because they get naked on screen doesn’t do justice to the actors performing their craft. However, the actress is not backing down, saying that she won’t stop filming nude scenes.
“I have no problems with those scenes, and I won’t stop doing them, but I wish there was an easier way to have an open conversation about what we’re assuming about actors in the industry,” said Sydney Sweeney.
Euphoria Broke New Ground
The actress added that she “fully trusts” the filmmakers she works with, particularly Sam Levinson, the sole creator and writer of Euphoria. Sydney Sweeney does have a point; nude scenes are often an essential part of storytelling, and besides normalizing the human body and promoting body positivity, they also contribute to the artistic vision of a particular content.
Viewers, however, have complete autonomy to choose what they watch. If someone’s uncomfortable with Sydney Sweeney’s nude scenes, they can opt not to watch Euphoria or any other content that includes adult scenes.
Taking Full Advantage Of Cable
Euphoria, just like most HBO Original series, is rated TV-MA, which means that the content isn’t suitable for viewers under 17, and those who expected drug use, violence, and some nudity were surprised by the sheer number of shots containing someone’s intimate region or a love scene being used for plot purposes. If you think Spartacus was excessive in terms of nudity, Euphoria really pushed the boundaries of risky television and cinema, prompting many to wonder whether actors are really comfortable with so much nudity and explicit content.
Sweeney Is A Rising Star
Following her roles in Euphoria and The White Lotus, Sydney Sweeney is currently riding pretty high in Hollywood, but that doesn’t mean she’s set for life. The actress recently shared that she struggled with burnout, revealing that she doesn’t have an income that would allow her to cover a six-month break.
This might sound weird, considering just how much actors are earning, but Sydney Sweeney further explained that while established stars get paid, rising actors often aren’t paid as Hollywood greats are, and streamers still aren’t paying residuals.
Euphoria Season 3 Is In The Works
With that said, Levinson is still writing the script for Euphoria Season 3 but has admitted to facing difficulties in transitioning the show away from a high-school setting. In the meantime, actress Sydney Sweeney has been cast to play Christy Martin in an upcoming biopic about Martin’s life. However, the filming of this particular project hasn’t yet begun.
