Stephen King Praises New Series As The Next Lost

By Erika Hanson | Published

Fans of Lost have little hope that any new series will ever be able to live up to the magic of the beloved sci-fi drama. But according to Stephen King, that show is coming to Peacock soon. Not exactly what you’d expect to be called “the next Lost” the king of horror is praising the upcoming horror series Teacup, saying fans of the hit ABC series will enjoy it.

Stephen King Approves

On October 1, Stephen King took to X to share his thoughts on Teacup: “TEACUP: If you like FROM or LOST, I think you’ll enjoy this. It’s strange, creepy, claustrophobic, and scary. Beware the Gas Mask Man. Short episodes. All killer, no filler.”

Based On A New York Times Best-Selling Book

Teacup will begin streaming on Peacock on October 10 and is based on the Robert R. McCammon novel, Stinger. The best-selling sci-fi book centers around Inferno, Texas, where an alien hunter has crash-landed, putting the lives of Inferno’s residents at risk.

Teacup

The Peacock comes from James Wan’s Atomic Monster and the series is billed as a horror and will take place in the Georgia countryside. According to what little we know, Teacup will follow a group of strangers fighting for survival  against a “mysterious threat.”

Yvonne Strahovski, best known for her roles in Dexter and The Handmaid’s Tale, is set to star in Teacup. Ian McCulloch, whose previous credits include work on Yellowstone, wrote the series and will executive produce.

Even with such little information, it’s already easy to see how Stephen King might compare it to Lost.

How Can Teacup Be Similar To Lost?

Lost wasn’t a horror series, but the show had plenty of frightening and mysterious elements: the smoke monster, Jacob’s spooky cabin, and the overall mystery of the island, just to name a few. The book that Teacup is based on shares many common themes with the ABC series, with the overarching one being good vs. evil. Anyone who watched Lost knows that this was the most important recurring theme (black vs. white, Jacob and Locke).

Also Compared To From

Aside from Lost, Stephen King also compared Teacup to the hit MGM+ horror series, From. From just recently celebrated its Season 3 return. The show follows those trapped in a mysterious town as they desperately search for a way out while evading some seriously creepy monsters that attack at night.

Ironically, From is often likened to Lost, and even stars Harold Perrineau, who played Michael in the ABC hit.

Streaming On Peacock Soon

With a little more than a week until Teacup’s release, we will just have to take Stephen King’s seal of approval for its word. King is known for hating some of his own book-to-screen adaptations, such as Stanley Kubrick’s The Shining, simply for straying too far from the material. But maybe he feels different about this when the work isn’t of his own writing.

Peacock is likely to have more viewers thanks to Stephen King’s social plug for Teacup. Commenters flooded his post with excitement, vowing to check out the new horror show.
