The Best Scream Movies Are Now Streaming In One Place
It’s officially the spooky season, and while every streamer has something good to offer, Max is the number one destination for Scream fans. The first four movies in the franchise are now streaming on the platform.
We’re talking nothing but the Wes Craven-helmed productions as Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett only recently stepped up to the plate for 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream VI.
While we love the two newer movies, the first four (or the core four, if you will) are absolute classics, with each delivering something different while also leaning into the familiar.
The First Scream Movie
In Scream, the very first title to kick off the series of movies, audiences are introduced to Neve Campbell’s Sidney Prescott, a high school student who is reeling from the recent murder of her mother.
Before she knows what’s happening, Sidney becomes the target of a crazed killer in a spooky mask, with everyone around her a possible suspect.
The 1996 film included a stacked call sheet dotted with some of the biggest names of the decade, including Drew Barrymore, Matthew Lillard, Rose McGowan, Skeet Ulrich, Courteney Cox, and David Arquette.
Scream 2 Also A Hit
Moving the plot right along, Scream 2 pushed the movie’s characters off to the next steps in their lives, which, for Sidney, meant college.
Unfortunately, the final girl just couldn’t seem to shake the killer’s obsession as a new tormentor almost immediately picked up where the last left off.
Joining Campbell and the others who made it out of the first movie alive was a new A-list lineup that featured the talents of Timothy Olyphant, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Jada Pinkett Smith, Laurie Metcalf, and more.
Scream 3 Makes A Change
After college, Sidney tried to take a fresh break and moved to Los Angeles in Scream 3, which may be the most meta of all the movies.
Yet again, the apple of the killer’s (now known as Ghostface) eye, Sidney finds herself in a nightmare situation as a film studio is busy making a movie about her horrifying experiences.
Out of the first four films, this is the only one not penned by franchise creator Kevin Williamson, something that will jump out to any major Scream buff by the shift in tone.
Scream 4 With A New Cast
Finally, the last of the Scream movies now available on Max is Scream 4, which brings the action back to the fictional town of Woodsboro, California, where the events of the first film took place.
It’s been 15 years since Sidney and her friends were stalked by the masked killer and now a new masked maniac is out for blood.
Again, the movie brought in a ton of popular faces of the time including Emma Roberts, Adam Brody, Hayden Panettiere, Anthony Anderson, Rory Culkin, and Mary McDonnell.
Streaming Scream
As you assemble your list of 31 genre films to watch during October, the first four Scream movies are an absolute must.
Once you’re finished with the core four, you can head over to Paramount+ to discover a different kind of Core Four in 2022’s Scream and 2023’s Scream VI.
But even if you decide to stay on Max after watching Scream, Scream 2, Scream 3, and Scream 4, there are plenty of other terrific horror flicks to check out including The Shining, The Exorcist, and Fright Night.
