An Iconic Movie Set Just Went Up For Sale
Are you in the market for buying a movie set or studio lot? Maybe you are specifically looking for one with a stark Western theme replete with rundown facades, dirt streets, and more. Well, I have some great news for you. The Sable Ranch is up for sale, and the 400-acre lot has quite a bit of filming history attached.
Sable Ranch
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Sable Ranch is now up for sale. The 400-acre property in the Santa Clarita Valley has been the home and filming location for a number of high (and low) profile series and movies over the last many decades.
It’s been a popular Hollywood filming location for about 50 years, with all kinds of different productions using the lot for a variety of scenes, backdrops, and more.
An Old West Backdrop
Among the many features of Sable Ranch, there is a Western Street that simulates and appears to be, at least, what Hollywood thinks the Old West used to look like.
It’s probably not too far off and the next buyer will at least be able to live out some of those dreams on the property.
Plus, the property has a hacienda, barn, fields, and a train in addition to the old-timey town.
And if a movie or series wanted to create something unique, there was plenty of room to build custom sets as well.
Sons Of Anarchy, American Horror Story, And More
Over the years, Sable Ranch has seen productions like Sons of Anarchy, American Horror Story, and even fan-favorite (much too-soon-canceled) Firefly make a home there for shoots.
Other productions include Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, Ben Affleck’s The Account, Criminal Minds, and 24.
Around For Decades
Oh, and children of the 80s will love to know that The A-Team shot scenes on the Sable Ranch as well.
All manner of shows and movies have used Sable Ranch over the years, and the large property was replete with a number of different backdrops.
You didn’t need to saddle up to the saloon or duel it out at high noon to find a place to shoot here.
Sable Ranch was also used for a number of different musical productions with videos for Michael Jackson, Elton John, U2, and Taylor Swift taking place there over the years.
Easy Permitting
One reason Sable Ranch was able to do so much business with Hollywood over the years was its location and loose permitting process.
The property itself sits about 30 miles north of Hollywood and was part of the Santa Clarita’s Movie Ranch Overlay Zone (MOZ). This was the official way to say, a place where it was a lot easier to do the paperwork on movie productions.
That’s a key factor in getting productions up and running, going smoothly, and without a ton of time and cost.
Are you thinking about buying the Sable Ranch to make it your own little movie playground? You better start saving your pennies. The listing, held by CBRE, is offering the whole property for $35 million. Time will tell what happens to this semi-iconic place.
