Nicolas Cage As Spider-Man Noir Starts Shooting And We Can’t Believe The Photos Are Real

By Matthew Swigonski | Published

When Nicolas Cage first voiced Spider-Man Noir in the 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, it almost seemed a little too good to be true, especially for die-hard fans of the original comic.

Following the MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video announcement in May 2024 that Nicolas Cage would be reprising his role as the brooding and gritty 1930s detective in his very own series, it once again felt a little hard to truly believe.

As the first on-set photos of Spider-Noir now begin to circulate online, we still feel like we must be living in an alternate reality because this show is really happening.

Nicolas Cage As Spider-Noir

As first reported by Just Jared, Nicolas Cage was recently spotted donning the iconic Spider-Man Noir trench coat while filming Spider-Noir in Los Angeles.

The on-set photos show Nicolas Cage in the early morning hours in a downtown setting as his detective character strolls down the dark streets, recouping from appears to have been a recent struggle with some unseen perpetrators.

Been In A Fight?

Looking closely at the photos, we can see that Spider-Man Noir has a bruised cheek after being knocked over on the ground. After taking a moment to gather himself, he then struggles to get to his feet, taking his time before wobbly lifting himself up off of the ground.

For any impatient fans hoping for something more, there isn’t much else to see at the moment, but from what we can tell, the series is trying very hard to capture the essence and look of the original comic.

Spider-Man Noir

As one of the most original variations of the web-slinging superhero, Spider-Man Noir has become one of the most popular in the entire Spider-Verse, and that was well before Nicolas Cage was even attached to play the character.

So when fans got their first taste of the character in Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, it seemed like it would only be a matter of time until the crime-solving detective was featured in his own spin-off film or show. Although it may have taken a few extra years, the time for Spider-Noir is now.

A New Version Of Peter Parker

The series will follow the trials and tribulations of a down-of-his-luck private investigator named Peter Parker in a sleazy and crime-ridden 1930s version of New York City.

Played by Nicolas Cage, this Peter Parker will be unlike any version you’ve seen over the past two decades as he dons his Spider-Man Noir alter ego in an attempt to clean up the streets and take on the criminal underworld.

To make matters worse for Nicolas Cage’s Spider-Man Noir, he has to grapple with the fact that he is the city’s only superhero and its last line of defense against complete chaos.

Spider-Man Noir Series

Spider-Noir is the brainchild of Oren Uziel and Steve Lightfoot, who will serve as co-showrunners and executive producers for the MGM+ and Amazon Prime Video original series.

Alongside Nicolas Cage as Spider-Man Noir, the show will also feature Lamorne Morris, Brendan Gleeson, Li Jun Li, Abraham Popoola, Jack Huston, and Karen Rodriguez.

The series’ first season will consist of eight episodes, which will premiere on MGM+ first before being available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
