Anime is a beautiful form of storytelling that can bring any genre to life, from fantasy to slice-of-life. Most of the story centers around two siblings, Seita, a teenager, and Setsuko, a young girl, as they are separated from their parents during a firebombing during World War II. Trying to find their family again, the two have to learn to survive, rely on each other, and fight against overwhelming odds to live.
Based On Real Experiences

The book was meant to be semi-autobiographical in nature, documenting experiences and horrors seen by many during the war.
