Marvel’s Most Controversial Hero About To Return?
The upcoming Vision show doesn’t have a firm title or release date, but it is already generating major buzz thanks largely to fans of the excellent WandaVision series who want to see that story continue. Recently, this new show has made waves with the surprise (in the best possible way) announcement that James Spader will be reprising his role as Ultron. However, even bigger news may be around the corner, as a recent report claims that the controversial Scarlet Witch may return in the upcoming show.
The Scarlet Witch’s Return, And Possible Complications
At first, you might not be that surprised by the idea that the Scarlet Witch could return in this Vision series…after all, WandaVision was all about her grief over the loss of the original Vision, and that grief helped her create his ghostly-white new incarnation. And this new series is going to be the third part of a trilogy of shows, one that follows up on the upcoming Agatha All Along show featuring Wanda’s enemy Agatha Harkness. The Scarlet Witch coming back to finish the story she helped start would make plenty of sense, but there is a major storytelling hurdle: right now, her MCU character is dead.
Died In Multiverse Of Madness
Scarlet Witch last appeared onscreen in Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness, where she was a grief-stricken villain driven crazy by the events of WandaVision. At the end of the movie, she sacrifices herself to destroy all copies of the Darkhold throughout the Multiverse so nobody else is ever tempted to walk her dark road. The film doesn’t make her fate very clear, but Marvel’s recently released official timeline confirmed that Scarlet Witch died in Multiverse of Madness, making the prospect of her return seem deeply unlikely.
Fan Theories Don’t Rule Out The Possibility
However, with the recent reports that Scarlet Witch might return for the Vision show, we are left with an obvious question: just how would that happen, exactly? According to one fan theory, Wanda might get resurrected in Agatha All Along thanks to her son Billy Kaplan secretly being the Joe Locke character we have seen in previews. That may sound like a stretch, but one teaser for the upcoming show mentioned how the Witch’s Road “will give you the thing you want the most if you make it to the end,” and it would make sense for Wanda’s son to desperately want her back.
Past Actions Make For A Polarizing Return
While we’d be happy to see the Scarlet Witch return to the MCU, the controversial character does come with some baggage: some fans, for instance, wonder if she can ever be a hero again after her villainous actions in WandaVision and especially in Multiverse of Madness. Other fans think that her heel turn came out of nowhere and that Marvel has generally lost the plot with her character. If this witchy woman does come back, here’s hoping it’s in a way that can keep this often prickly fandom happy.
Let’s Hope It’s More Than Just Speculation
It’s still just a rumor, but we have our spell-slinging fingers crossed that Scarlet Witch will return in the Vision show, reuniting Elizabeth Olsen with Paul Bettany and maybe even James Spader. Regardless of the writing they are given, these three have enough collective talent to power Stark Industry’s huge arc reactor. And speaking of Stark, in a cinematic universe where Tony can come back as Doctor Doom thanks to the Multiverse, it only makes sense that Wanda can come back as the Scarlet Witch thanks to magic.
