Leave it to Mark Wahlberg to back a movie and make it a favorite long after it leaves theaters. Right now, the two-time Academy Award nominee’s feel-good movie, Arthur the King, is dominating multiple streaming platforms around the world. From Max to Prime Video and even Rakuten TV, the movie is gaining traction, proving that there’s always space for another heartfelt story about a man and his best friend.

Arthur The King Climbs Global Streaming Charts

In the United States, Arthur the King is streaming on Starz where it bounced around from the platform’s seventh place film to its tenth, while in Sweden it held down the number one spot all week until finally the King was dethroned to second place today. In Costa Rica, the movie has just begun its takeover on iTunes, nabbing the streamer’s seventh spot. Meanwhile, Scandinavian countries like Norway, Denmark, and Finland have been checking out the title on Prime Video where it’s seen success in the third and second positions.

But mostly, Arthur the King has taken the streaming world of Max over as it’s climbed the coveted favorites list in more than 10 countries. Ranging from the eighth to the second spot, with an average median of fourth place, the movie is a hit in countries like Bulgaria, Croatia, North Macedonia, Slovakia, Serbia, and more.

Based On A True Story

Arthur the King

Released into cinemas earlier this year in March, Arthur the King’s trip to conquer streaming platforms around the world has been a long time coming. After all, who doesn’t love a true story based on a street-smart dog? In the movie, Mark Wahlberg stars as Michael Light, the captain of an adventure racing team who, when audiences meet him, is the sole reason why he and his companions almost immediately lose a race in Costa Rica.

The rest of the film takes place a few years in the future, with Michael feeling stuck in his life and ready to get back into the world of adventure racing, which eventually carries him and his team on a journey across 435 miles of the roughest terrain the Dominican Republic has to offer.

Along the way, the group crosses paths with a stray dog who won’t seem to leave them alone and ultimately helps them come out the other side all in one piece. With plenty of heart, adventure, and a cute pup, it’s completely understandable why Arthur the King has been enjoying such a solid run on streaming services around the globe.

Along with Mark Wahlberg, the rest of the cast that has helped Arthur the King gather in streaming viewership numbers includes Simu Liu (Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings), Nathalie Emmanuel (Game of Thrones), Juliet Rylance (Perry Mason), Ali Suliman (Paradise Now), and even survivalist reality TV personality Bear Grylls.

The production was under the direction of Simon Cellan Jones (The Family Plan) with Michael Brandt (Wanted) adapting the screenplay from Mikael Lindnord’s book, Arthur – The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home

With Arthur the King now available on Max, Prime Video, and so many other streaming services around the world, there’s a solid chance that wherever you are, the touching story of a determined dog and his human companion is available for your next movie night.
