Kathryn Hahn Receives Award For Historic Marvel Nudity

Agatha All Along has proven to be one of the better Disney+ MCU shows, one featuring quirky characters, a fun cast, and plenty of dark laughs. All of these would be great reasons to tune in, but the first episode featured an additional incentive: our lead actor getting naked and flashing audiences her rear end. Recently, Jennifer Hudson decided to reward Kathryn Hahn for her fearless Marvel nudity with an (ahem) cheeky plaque that reads “First Woman To Show Butt in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.”

First Nude Woman In Marvel

Before giving the star her award, Jennifer Hudson asked the Agatha All Along star if she realized she was “the first woman to show butt in the Marvel Cinematic Universe?” Kathryn Hahn clarified that she didn’t know that ditching her clothes was making Marvel history but that she is now happy to share this honor with Chris Hemsworth, who showed off his own godly glutes in Thor: Love and Thunder. “Thor and me,” Hahn quipped before receiving her plaque, “just our butts encased in gold — that’s my dream.”

Kathryn Hahn’s Idea

Considering Hollywood’s depressing history of exploiting female stars, you might imagine that this bit of skintight titillation in the first episode of Agatha All Along was the idea of a Disney executive, one who presumably didn’t want this show to bleed viewers as The Acolyte did.

However, Kathryn Hahn told Jennifer Hudson that this historic Marvel nudity was her own idea. The script had her wearing a robe for the moment where she has broken the illusion and wanders outside, but the actor decided that wearing said clothes would be distinctly out of character.

Once she read the script note about her character putting on a robe, the acclaimed actor immediately asked, “I wonder if she would put on a robe?” Kathryn Hahn’s logic was that her Marvel character should rock some nudity in this scene to help symbolize the fact that Agatha “was just feral” at the time. Because “she wouldn’t even be thinking of who she is,” the last thing she would be worrying about was grabbing a robe and hiding her Disney derriere from viewers.

Hudson praised Kathryn Hahn for her commitment to the Marvel role and her willingness to embrace nudity in the name of character development. As for the Agatha All Along star, she recalls that day with wry amusement, laughing as she noted that “there was a lot of double-sided tape.” Additionally, she couldn’t exactly be sneaky when shooting because “every time I moved it was like squeak, squeak, squeak.”

Needless to say, Kathryn Hahn’s bare bum set the internet on fire, and it didn’t take long for Marvel fans to celebrate her nudity. And not just for prurient reasons: the MCU typically keeps things very PG-13, making it rare to see even a bare butt (like in Thor: Love and Thunder) or onscreen sex (like in Eternals and Jessica Jones). Her character stripping down symbolized that Agatha felt unmoored, but it also symbolized something else: namely, that Agatha All Along wouldn’t be playing by the typical rules.

Agatha All Along Is A Certified Hit

So far, that has been a solid decision: recently, Disney boasted that the show had increased its viewership by 35 percent since the series premiere. Word of mouth is working, and it seems like this show might have finally discovered the missing ingredient for a killer Marvel TV series. Simply put, it was Kathryn Hahn (in all her naked glory) all along.
