Jeff Goldblum Is Done With Jurassic Park?

Upcoming Jurassic Park sequel, Jurassic World: Rebirth will include Scarlett Johannson and Johnathan Bailey in starring roles, and Jeff Goldblum is optimistic about their command of the new installment of Jurassic Park. Putting Dr. Ian Malcom out to pasture might not bother Jeff Goldblum as much as it bothers fans, who seem ever-hopeful of a return. The aptly named Jurassic World: Rebirth is taking a totally new direction, with a new cast, so the future of the franchise might be a departure from previous installments.

Jeff Goldblum doesn’t have any ill will towards the new Jurassic Park sequel stars, expressing that he thinks they’ll do a good job. His opinion of the negative reception that the most recent Jurassic World movie got is that while it sold a bunch of tickets, it’s hard to please people, and “everyone has an opinion.” In an acting career as long as Golblum’s, you’re bound to make some movies that aren’t well received, even if you do have a great time making them.

While Jeff Goldblum expressed enthusiasm for the two most recent installments of the Jurassic Park series, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom and Jurassic World Dominion, Dominion didn’t do well with fans, retaining a 27 percent score on Rotten Tomatoes. The newer Jurassic World movies have had a mixed reception from critics and fans alike, with critics calling the dinosaurs commonplace and boring. While the critics didn’t care for the new chapters, fans still appreciated seeing Jeff Goldblum reprise his earlier role from the earlier Jurassic Park movies.

Some of the best and most quoted lines of the franchise came from Jeff Goldblum’s character in Jurassic Park. Most famously, he derided the creators of the park for not taking safety seriously enough, saying, “…if The Pirates of the Caribbean breaks down, the pirates don’t eat the tourists.” His astute observations on the obvious dangers involved in bringing dinosaurs back to life and putting them into a zoo for tourists to visit are one of the funniest parts of the science fiction adventure series and Dr. Ian Malcom will be missed if he doesn’t make a return down the line.

Although we won’t be seeing Jeff Goldblum in the new Jurassic Park sequel, we will get to see a new cast go on a dinosaur-filled adventure. The new cast for the feature, coming to screens July 2, 2025, will include Scarlett Johansen as Zora Bennet, Rupert Friend as Martin Krebs, Jonathan Bailey as Dr. Henry Loomis, Mahershala Ali as Duncan Kincaid, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo as Reuben Delgado. Jurassic World: Rebirth will be directed by Gareth Edwards, known for directing Rogue One: a Star Wars Story, and the 2014 version of Godzilla.
