Netflix Beef Season 2 Adds Marvel Star To New Cast
For anyone looking to pig out on some juicy drama, Netflix has announced that it has renewed its critically acclaimed show Beef for a tantalizing Season 2, and this time around, things will be looking pretty Marvel-ous. Alongside the renewal announcement, Netflix has also revealed some big names for the anthology series’ second season, including Oscar Isaac, star of the Marvel series Moon Knight. Joining Isaac in the star-studded cast will be Carey Mulligan, Charles Melton, Cailee Spaeny, and Youn Yuh-jung.
Everything We Know About Beef Season 2
To ensure that Season 2 of Beef retains that same level of spiciness as its first season, Lee Sung Jin will return as creator, showrunner, and executive producer. The show will also see Season 1 stars Steven Yeun and Ali Wong return as executive producers, alongside Jake Schreier.
The second season will revolve around a young couple who witnesses an alarming fight between their boss and his wife, setting off a chain reaction of favors and coercion in the elitist world of a country club and its Korean billionaire owner.
Season 2 of Beef will feature eight 30-minute episodes, shortening the episode count by two from the first season while still maintaining the brisk and often chaotic half-hour pace. While the official renewal announcement took about a year and a half since Season 1 of Beef dropped on Netflix, Lee admits that he has not stopped working on concepts and storylines for the eventual second season.
Following an award season that saw Beef take home an impressive eight Emmy wins, Lee spoke to The Hollywood Reporter about developing a Season 2 for Beef. “I think Beef will just by its title always have [conflict] simmering underneath, but in terms of what the other layers could be, that’s something that I’d really need to take some time and see deep inside what wants to come out,” Lee said.
Steven Yeun And Ali Wong Were Explosive In Season 1
Although more specific plot details are still under wraps, you’d have to imagine that Lee and the rest of the team behind Beef will be cooking up some truly delectable twists and turns that will be able to match the energy of the anthology series’ first entry.
Season 1 of Beef centered around the chaotic fallout from a minor traffic accident that turned into an explosive case of road rage. Following their inability to squash what should have been a simple mishap, Danny Cho (Yeun), a failing contractor desperate to prove his worth and Amy Lau (Wong), a self-made entrepreneur with a seemingly idyllic life, turn what should have been a minor grievance into a full-fledged blood feud that threatens to ruin everything they had each worked for.
Oscar Isaac In Beef Season 2
It might be a bit disappointing that Yeun and Wong will not be starring in Season 2 of Beef, but Isaac has proven time and time again to be more than capable of anchoring a cast. Before starring in Marvel’s Moon Knight, Issac appeared opposite Jessica Chastain in the 2021 limited series Scenes from a Marriage.
The five-episode series took a compelling look inside a crumbling marriage filled with high emotions and captivating performances, earning Isaac an Emmy nomination for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Limited or Anthology Series or Movie.
In Season 2 of Beef, Issac will be reunited on-screen with Mulligan, his co-star in the 2011 film, Drive. The actors played a mismatched couple whose relationship is threatened by the arrival of a deeply mysterious and brooding driver.
