Diddy Declines Plea Deal As Trial Looms

By Chris Snellgrove | Published

Things continue to worsen for Sean Combs (better known as Diddy): after getting arrested on charges of racketeering and sex trafficking. Allegations about the singer’s notorious “Freak Off” sex parties have come to light that threaten both his career and many famous figures in Hollywood.

However, it seems the rap mogul is looking forward to his day in court, and he’s so confident that he is turning down what might be his best offer. According to Diddy’s lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, his client has turned down a plea and believes that he is fighting to protect other powerful figures from false accusations.

Protecting Others?

Diddy’s lawyer spilled the details of the plea refusal in his appearance on TMZ’s recent documentary The Downfall of Diddy: Indictment.

In that appearance, he emphasized his client’s desire to prove his innocence in court and change the negative perception of himself that his high-profile arrest has created.

Without naming any names, the lawyer claims that Diddy wants to help protect others who have been falsely accused and is willing to take the stand to do so.

Taking The Stand?

Among those watching this legal trainwreck unfold, it was already shocking enough to learn that Diddy refused a plea deal.

However, anyone who has ever watched an episode of Law & Order knows how dangerous it can be for high-profile figures to take the stand in their own defense.

This opens them up to some fierce cross-examination, and considering that the singer has already been tried in the court of public opinion, there is always the chance that something he says or does could further damage his reputation and career.

Legal Salvation Or Undoing?

Because Diddy refused the plea, his testimony during the trial could provide some legal salvation or prove to be his undoing.

Marc Agnifilo acknowledged that his client taking the stand poses certain risks, but he claims that nobody is better suited to defend the singer from these allegations than Diddy himself.

With all the flare of a Marvel writer, the lawyer further claimed that his client’s story is one of “love, hurt, and heartbreak.”

The preview for the documentary also included Agnifilio trying to dispel the frequent claim that his client had a thousand bottles of baby oil that were seized by the feds: “I don’t know where the number 1,000 came from,” he said.

“I can’t imagine its thousands… [I’m] not really sure what the baby oil has to do with anything.”

While attempting to dispute the exact number, the lawyer also provided a defense of the singer having such an extraordinarily large number of baby oil as well as lubricant in his home. “He has a big house, [so] he buys in bulk,” Agnifilio said.

Unfortunately for Diddy, this defense (much like his refusal to take a plea bargain) has gone viral in a way that seemingly further harms his reputation and his legal goals.

A Messy Trial?

Some, of course, are happy that Diddy refused the plea because it means we’ll get a messy trial, but those haters will have to be patient: as of this writing, the singer’s trial has not yet been scheduled.

Until then, we can only speculate what he will say on the stand and whether it will accomplish his ultimate goal of salvaging his career.

Until then, we’ll just be pondering another big question: how much of a discount could we score by buying a thousand baby bottles in bulk?
