DC Star Delivers Surprising Political Endorsement
As the American presidential election of 2024 continues to draw nearer, many celebrities and public figures have been encouraging their fans and supporters to get out and vote, while throwing out their own official endorsements. Taylor Swift famously endorsed Democratic nominee and sitting Vice President Kamala Harris for the 2025 appointment to the Oval Office, spiking registration numbers by the tens of thousands. Now, it seems as though Shazam star Zachary Levi has made his endorsement clear as well, rallying support for former president and 34-time convicted felon Donald Trump.
Zachary Levi Endorses Donald Trump
Zachary Levi expressed his intention to vote for Trump during a recent rally for the controversial Republican nominee, with a surprise appearance on the Michigan stage. The Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Squeakquel actor was in attendance as a moderator for a panel that included former Hawaii state representative and current conservative commentator Tulsi Gabbard, as well as Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
The latter, often referred to simply as RFK, was previously in the 2024 race himself as an independent candidate, though he dropped out back in August in order to throw his support behind Donald Trump as well.
Levi Wishes To Take Back The Country
Before the moderated discussion between RFK and Gabbard began, Zachary Levi took to the stage to address the audience, and list his own personal reasons for supporting Donald Trump. The Shazam lead specifically explained “We’re here to make sure that we are going to take back this country, we are going to make it great again, we are going to make it healthy again… Donald Trump, President Trump is the man that can get us there.”
Trump Wasn’t His First Choice
Though Levi offered his full support to the former president, he made it clear throughout his speech that Trump would not be his first choice in this, or any election. Zachary Levi is a known and noted fan of RFK Jr, and has publicly expressed his support for the anti-vaccine activist on many occasions.
During his comments at the Michigan rally, Levi said of Kennedy “Man, this guy is it. He’s the real deal,” and argued that he is casting a vote for Trump because “We don’t live in a perfect world. In fact, we live in a very broken one. We live in a country that has been hijacked by a lot of people who want to take this place way off the cliff.”
Career Suicide?
Like many American voters, it seems as though Zachary Levi is viewing the upcoming election as a choice between the lesser of two evils. Still, many Hollywood insiders have regarded his outspoken support of the controversial former president as “career suicide,” with many of Levi’s fans arguing that the Shazam actor may find himself run out of Hollywood for his conservative leanings.
Despite these comments, Levi has over half a dozen upcoming projects in various stages of active production, according to his IMDb.
Controversy Surrounding The DC Star
The last time that Zachary Levi was in the news for his political views, DC creative head James Gunn was asked about whether or not he would continue to work with the actor. Gunn explained, during a January 2023 Warner Bros event, that he doesn’t make business decisions based on personal politics, and that he won’t change his vision for the DCU over a personal disagreement with any one actor.
The following year would see Levi drawing widespread criticism for his comments about the SAG-AFTRA strikes and for agreeing that Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines were somehow posing dangers to the health of the public.
In the wake of Taylor Swift‘s unwavering endorsement of Kamala Harris, Donald Trump exploded on social media, posting “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!” on his Truth Social account. For now, Vice President Harris has not made any similarly scathing comments about losing the Zachary Levi vote, signaling that she may not be losing any sleep over the Shazam star.
