Captain Kirk Saved Two Adorable Dogs In Real Life
Normally, Star Trek fans don’t associate Kirk with dogs (although Paul Wesley has admittedly been giving his Strange New Worlds character bouts of golden retriever energy). However, the Enterprise captain who helped usher this franchise into the modern era now fills his days ushering animals to safety. Kelvinerse Captain Kirk actor Chris Pine recently saved two dogs from being killed, and he’s now busy trying to find a permanent home to beam them into.
See Pine with the adorable dogs in the X video below.
Chris Pine is working with Pets Global, an organization that has decided to give a year’s worth of their special Zignature dog food to anyone who is willing to adopt these animals.
Because he’s still waiting for the offer to reprise his role as Captain Kirk (nominally, Paramount is still working on a fourth and final film as part of its Kelvinverse prequels), you might wonder what Chris Pine has been doing with these precious dogs since saving them last year. While fostering these pooches (Captain Archer would be proud, we think), he’s been helping them prepare for this very moment.
Each animal needed surgeries and special training before they were ready to find a permanent home. Now, a bit like the average Starfleet Academy graduate, they are ready to go out and meet new life…or at least, someone with a steady supply of treats.
“These two dogs … they’re still waiting for homes, so if there’s anybody out there that reads this, I have two gorgeous, wonderful loving dogs that need a home.”

Just as Captain Kirk needed the support of the entire Enterprise crew to be successful, Chris Pine realized he needed his own support system to find these dogs a new home. That’s why he is working with Pets Global, an organization that has decided to give a year’s worth of their special Zignature dog food to anyone who is willing to adopt these animals. And in a recent interview with People, the actor opened up about how we all need to work together in order to do a better job by man’s best friend.
According to the Captain Kirk actor, “These two dogs … they’re still waiting for homes, so if there’s anybody out there that reads this, I have two gorgeous, wonderful loving dogs that need a home.” He specifically called out Los Angeles as having “horrifying” issues with adoption rates and problems with shelters, which is why he has become such a “big promoter of adopting.

In addition to helping out some cuddly critters, Pine noted how adoption keeps “dogs off the streets,” which is a goal that any LA resident can agree with.
As of this writing, it’s not clear whether the second actor to bring Captain Kirk to life is going to succeed in his mission of helping the dogs he saved find new homes. However, if we’ve learned anything from decades of watching Star Trek, it’s that you should never bet against the captain of the Enterprise, especially one who doesn’t believe in the no-win scenario. Risk is his business, and it’s clear that Chris Pine is willing to risk anything in order to give the best possible life to the two animals that he had already saved.
