The Mandalorian is the very first live-action series in the Star Wars franchise. The series, created by Jon Favreau, premiered with the launch of Disney+ on November 12, 2019, and was an immediate hit. It follows the Mandalorian, Din Djarin, a lone bounty hunter forced to go on the run to protect the child, Grogu, who just so happens to be Force-sensitive.

PEDRO PASCAL LEADS THE MANDALORIAN CAST

The series star is Pedro Pascal. As Din Djarin/the Mandalorian, we don’t see his face as much as some would like, for as a Mandalorian, they are never to remove their helmet. Favreau based the character of Din Djarin on the classic Clint Eastwood spaghetti western character, The Man With No Name.

Joining Pascal as recurring characters in season one was Carl Weathers as Greef Karga, Omid Abtahi as Dr. Pershing, Werner Herzog as the Client, Emily Swallow as the Armorer, Gina Carano as Cara Dune, Amy Sedaris as Peli Motto, Ming-Na Wen as Fennec Shand, and Giancarlo Esposito as Moff Gideon.

Also joining the cast in season one were Nick Nolte and Taika Waititi, both of whom provided the voices for Kuiil (Nolte) and IG-11 (Waititi).

Season two brought back Carano, Weathers, Abtahi, Esposito, Sedaris, and Wen. Joining them were some heavy hitters in Timothy Olyphant as Cobb Vanth, Temuera Morrison as Boba Fett, Katee Sackhoff as Bo-Katan Kryze, Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka Tano, and we even got a peek at a CGI’d younger version of Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker.

Season three, which premiered on March 1, 2023, brings back a number of stars from the first season to join Pascal and Grogu on their newest adventure. Back in action are Sackhoff, Weathers, Swallow, Sedaris, Abhati, and returning to the fold will also be Giancarlo Esposito. As the third season is only three episodes into it, we are unsure as to what surprises The Mandalorian will hold for viewers.

THE MANDALORIAN TAKES PLACE AFTER THE RETURN OF THE JEDI

The Mandalorian picks up five years after the events of 1983’s Return of the Jedi and the destruction of the Galactic Empire. We meet up with the Mandalorian (we don’t find out his name until the final episode in season one) as he is being hired to locate and retrieve Grogu (aka Baby Yoda). Instead of handing over Grogu, the Mandalorian decides he needs to protect “The Child,” so they go on the run.

Din Djarin’s new directive, his own, now is to reunite Grogu with his own kind. But while they are on the run, Moff Gideon is hot on their trail, wanting Grogu for himself so he can use Grogu’s ability with the Force.

Din Djarin also seeks redemption for the one transgression Mandalorians are sworn to never make – removing their helmet.

SEASON 1 WAS EIGHT EPISODES

Season 1 of The Mandalorian consists of eight episodes. It was the perfect reintroduction to the Star Wars universe and was an immediate hit right out of the gate. T

he first season follows the bounty hunter from job to job, from his introduction to The Child, and his decision to protect the child instead of handing it over to those who wish to do it harm.

Along the way the Mandalorian enlists help from The Armorer, Cara Dune, Greef Karga, and others to ensure the safety of Grogu.

THE MANDALORIAN SEASON 2 RECAP

Season 2 of The Mandalorian also consists of eight episodes. When the action picks up, we find that the Mandalorian is tasked with returning Grogu to the Jedi and is looking for help in doing so. He returns to the planet of Tatooine, where it is said there is another Mandalorian in the town of Mos Pelgo. Instead of finding a Mandalorian, he finds Cobb Vanth, a man who has been pretending to be a Mandalorian.

The second season of The Mandalorian is a quest with the goal of getting The Child to his people. Din Djarin enlists the help of many including Cara Dune, Bo-Katan, Boba Fett, and Fennec Shand to that end, while also fighting off Moff Gideon’s relentless attempts to take Grogu for his own purposes.

Season 2 not only sees the return of many of season one’s big names, but it also introduces others such as Michael Biehn as Lang, comedian Bill Burr as Migs Mayfield, Horatio Sanz as Mythro. Plus, Mark Hamill makes a rather triumphant return as Luke Skywalker.

THE MANDALORIAN SEASON 3 IS UNDERWAY

We are only three episodes into season 3, which premiered on March 1, 2023, of another eight-episode season. At this point, the goal of Din Djarin remains the same – to return Grogu to his people and also redeem himself as a Mandalorian.

Where the remaining five episodes take Din Djarin and Grogu remains to be seen, and although there are some reports that the series may be losing some fans, The Mandalorian continues to be a major hit and a worthy addition to the Star Wars Universe.
