Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3

There is good news and some potentially bad news for fans of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds. The first bit of good news actually came when Paramount+ jumped the Season 2 premiere by announcing Strange New Worlds would definitely be back for Season 3.

With Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 2 ended on a cliffhanger so this was great news, even if the wait would be a long one.

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 Plot

No doubt fans of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds were on the edge of their collective seats as the Season 2 finale ended. It left the crew of the Enterprise in a dire situation.

The Gorn has just kidnapped Key Enterprise crewmembers like Ortega and M’Benga. Captain Patel had been infested with Gorn eggs, rendered unconscious and under sedation in the Enterprise sickbay.

The Enterprise was surrounded on all sides by Gorn ships, and Starfleet had just ordered Captain Pike to abandon his capture crew and retreat.

Season 2 ends with Captain Pike totally befuddled, terrified, and indecisive. He looked like this…

Star Trek: Strange New Worlds season 3 had a lot to resolve.

Beyond that immediate danger, the entire Season 2 also set up multiple storylines heading into Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3.

One of the biggest and perhaps most anticipated storylines would be the arrival of Nurse Christine Chapel’s (Jess Bush) future fiancé., Dr. Roger Korby (Michael Strong). Korby figures prominently in an episode of Star Trek: The Original Series.

We know so far that in Strange New Worlds Nurse Chapel (Jess Bush), received word that she has been accepted for a fellowship to work alongside Dr. Korby. She was on her way there when the Gorn attack occurred.

During Star Trek: The Original Series, it was divulged that Korby and Chapel’s romance turned into an engagement, but that was cut short when Korby went missing. Presumably, this and Korby’s return will be further explored, possibly ending in heartbreak for a couple of characters.

James T. Kirk
Paul Wesley as James T. Kirk

Strange New Worlds has also set up more potential blockbuster season 3 storylines. These include Lt. James T. Kirk (Paul Wesley) and his impending fatherhood, as well as his promotion to Commander of the USS Farragut.

Next would be the storyline following Dr. Joseph M’Benga (Babs Olusanmokun). He has some very dark secrets about his past in the Klingon War that appear to be rearing their ugly heads.

Martin Quinn as Scotty

One more thing tickling fans of Star Trek: The Original Series was the further development of a young Montgomery Scott (Martin Quinn). Scott showed up in the Season 2 finale, and when we last saw him, he was going to work as an assistant to the Enterprise’s current Chief Engineer.

In Star Trek: Strange New Worlds Season 3 there’s a young Scotty learning and growing into the position of the Enterprise’s Chief Engineer.

Remember, Star Trek: Strange New Worlds takes place 6 years before Kirk and company take charge of the Enterprise, so there are still plenty of stories to tell about Captain Christopher Pike (Anson Mount) and his crew.

Oh, and don’t forget that a glimpse of Strange New Worlds Season 3 was given at Comic-Con and needless to say, it didn’t make a ton of sense.

It had the crew actually turning into Vulcans because of genetic engineering.

With the way things were left in the season 2 finale, we can assume a number of returning characters for season 3 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds.

These include Anson Mount, Ethan Peck, Rebecca Romijn, Jess Bush, Christina Chong, Celia Rose Gooding, Melissa Navia, Babs Olusanmokun, Paul Wesley, Dan Jeannotte, and Carol Kane.

Plus, there’s Martin Quinn back as Scotty.

Season 3’s Release Date Has Been Massively Delayed

The Writer’s and Actor’s strike. The WGA strike started on May 2, 2023. Then there was the SAG-AFTRA strike joining two months later. These went on for months.

Hollywood went dark during this time and stopped the progress on many series.

It was particularly disastrous for Strange New Worlds.

The series isn’t expected until 2025.

Where To Watch Strange New Worlds Season 3

All of seasons 1 and 2 of Star Trek: Strange New Worlds are streaming on Paramount+. While you are there and have shot through each season consisting of 10 episodes, you may also want to scoot on over and check out all 3 seasons of Star Trek: Picard.
