Shiloh Jolie-Pitt
The path that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt took to have children certainly made the media rounds at the time. Their first two children were adopted, as was their fourth, all from different countries, while the other three were all conceived. The first biological child of Jolie and Pitt was Shiloh Jolie-Pitt and since that time, she has gone through a few changes. Here is what we know about Shiloh Jolie-Pitt.
SHILOH JOLIE-PITT WAS THE FIRST DAUGHTER BORN TO ANGELINA JOLIE AND BRAD PITT
It was called “Brangelina” and yes, it was a real thing. It was the celebrity phenomenon that came from the marriage of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie, the power Hollywood couple who seemingly could do no wrong. They adopted their first three children, which we will talk about in a bit, and they were now ready to conceive their very first child.
As Angelina got closer and closer to her due date, the media frenzy simply increased. So, to get away from all the craziness, Brad, Angelina, and their three adopted children picked up stakes and headed out, of all places, to Nambia, South Africa. To be more precise, they went to Swakopmund, Nambia, a coastal city, to have their first child.
Having children from different countries is nothing new to Jolie, seeing as how her first three children are adopted from three different countries. So having her first biological child in a different country was not going to be an issue. In fact, the only true issue Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s mother would face would be the fact that Shiloh was breech, so instead of the baby coming out naturally, she had to arrive via a cesarian section.
Jolie explained the hospital experience to Marie Claire, saying, “Brad has a film of me in the hospital,” Jolie says. “They were trying to put the IV in and I began laughing so hard. I was out of my mind. But it was lovely. He put on an iPod and, 20 minutes later, they were like, ‘OK, we’re going to lift her [Shiloh] out.’”
And they did. Before Jolie had been given the medication, she and Pitt agreed on one thing, which they in turn requested of the hospital. Once Shiloh Jolie-Pitt was born, she was not to leave Jolie’s hospital room. The hospital was more than happy to grant their wish. Shiloh Jolie-Pitt was born May 27, 2006.
“Thirty minutes later, I was breastfeeding,” Jolie recalled. “And I was on the phone with my mom, who was also in the hospital.” Jolie’s mother, Marcheline Bertrand, had been diagnosed with ovarian cancer and was fighting the valiant fight. “We were laughing because we were both under the same assumed name,” said Jolie, “and we both had been given lots of morphine.”
Pitt and Jolie had the foresight to thwart the paparazzi by selling the rights of images of Shiloh Jolie-Pitt to People for North America, and Hello! for Britain. People paid $4.1 million while Hello! paid $3.5 million to gain these rights. Pitt and Jolie donated that money to UNICEF.
Jolie and Pitt left with Shiloh Jolie-Pitt and their growing family three days later to head back to the United States. Jolie’s mother kept fighting until she couldn’t any longer. She lost her battle with ovarian cancer eight months to the day that Shiloh was born.
Thankfully, before Bertrand’s passing, Jolie was able to take Shiloh Jolie-Pitt to the hospital, and “in the last few days of [Bertrand’s] life, I brought Shiloh to the hospital room. [Shiloh] kept pulling her oxygen, and my mother kept saying, ‘It’s OK, I don’t need it.’ That’s such a perfect grandmother, you know? You don’t need your oxygen.”
Angelina Jolie’s mother would pass away not long after she received a visit from newborn Shiloh Jolie-Pitt. Jolie would end up flying in from New Orleans and an hour after landing, her mother would lose her life.
“It was an hour after I landed that she passed,” Jolie recalled. “It was like she knew we were all together. It was certainly one of the worst days of my life – and then it was also one of the most beautiful, realizing that is how family takes care of family. It was another gift she gave us.”
SHILOH IS JUST ONE OF SIX CHILDREN
Shiloh Jolie-Pitt is the third of six children. The oldest is her brother Maddox, who was born on August 5, 2001, in Cambodia.
When Jolie was first trying to adopt Maddox, she was going to do it with her then-husband, Billy Bob Thornton. The couple both announced that they were adopting Maddox but then Jolie ended up adopting him alone, as she and Thornton separated three months later.
Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s older sister is Zahara. She was only six months old when Jolie adopted her from an orphanage in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Because of official testimony from Zahara’s birth grandmother, Jolie believed Zahara to be an AIDS orphan. It was eventually found out not to be true when Zahara’s actual birth mother came forward to say it was untrue.
The second eldest in the family is Pax Jolie-Pitt. He was the third adopted, though he is older than both Zahara and Shiloh Jolie-Pitt. Pax was adopted by Jolie from an orphanage in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
To adopt Pax, Jolie had to apply for adoption as a single parent because Vietnam’s adoption laws say unmarried couples can not co-adopt. And since Pitt and Jolie had yet to be married, she could only do it alone. Eventually, though, Pitt did adopt all three children as well. He adopted Maddox and Zahara in 2006 and finally Pax in 2008.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie did not stop there. The same year that Pitt adopted Pax, Pitt and Jolie gave Shiloh Jolie-Pitt a biological brother and sister when fraternal twins, Knox and Vivienne were born. Jolie dropped the news to the world that she was pregnant with twins at the 2008 Cannes Film Festival. After that, she spent two weeks in a seaside Nice, France hospital, waiting for her twins to be born.
As they did with Shiloh, Pitt and Jolie had already sold the rights to the first photos of their twins to People and Hello! magazines. This time the rights were purchased for a combined $14 million, and those proceeds went to the Jolie-Pitt Foundation.
SHILOH JOLIE-PITT DRASTICALLY CHANGED HER LOOK
When Shiloh Jolie-Pitt was a young child, she was very determined to be who she wanted to be. She was four years old when her mother spoke to Reuters, explaining her daughter. “I think she is fascinating, the choices she is making,” said Jolie. “And I would never be the kind of parent to force somebody to be something they are not. I think that is just bad parenting.”
As she grew older, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt made her point perfectly known, which her father revealed in a 2010 interview. “She only wants to be called John. John or Peter. So, it’s a Peter Pan thing,” he said.
“So, we’ve got to call her John. ‘Shi, do you want …’ — ‘John. I’m John.’ And then I’ll say, ‘John, would you like some orange juice?’ And she goes, ‘No!’ So, you know, it’s just that kind of stuff that’s cute to parents and it’s probably really obnoxious to other people.”
In 2010, Angelina confirmed to Vanity Fair that her daughter still preferred to be considered a boy and she would show as much when she’d accompany her mother or father on the red carpet, where she’d only want to wear suits. “She wants to be a boy. So, we had to cut her hair. She likes to wear boys’ everything. She thinks she’s one of the brothers.”
Things would eventually change for Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, as she began to grow into the gifts that were given to her by her mom. Shiloh began to wear dresses out during big occasions, though she has recently given fans a shock by chopping off all her locks and going with a buzz cut. Shiloh was seen out and about with her older sister Zahara, sporting her new ‘do while they were out shopping.
SHILOH JOLIE-PITT CAN DANCE
Although there isn’t much more known about Shiloh Jolie-Pitt, one thing is for certain, she likes to dance. She does most of it at the Millennium Dance Complex, the elite studio in Los Angeles, and just seeing her dance makes her father very emotional.
“It brings a tear to the eye, yeah,” Pitt told Entertainment Tonight in August 2022 while on his latest movie’s [Bullet Train] red carpet. “I don’t know where she got it from. I’m Mr. Two-Left-Feet here.” You can see her dance here.
NO INSTAGRAM SOCIAL MEDIA FOR SHILOH JOLIE-PITT
It doesn’t appear that Shiloh Jolie-Pitt is big on social media as of yet, though you will see images of her scattered on the internet. She does have a couple of Instagram fan accounts and although her mother does have an Instagram account, she very rarely posts pictures of her children.
BRAD PITT AND ANGELINA JOLIE HAVE SPLIT
It’s no secret that things have taken a major turn for the worse between Shiloh Jolie-Pitt’s parents. Accusations continue to fly as Angelina alleges Pitt abused her and her children. The details, which can be read here, are disturbing, to say the least. How this affects Shiloh and the rest of her siblings is not known at the moment, so only time will tell to see where this story ends up.
