Invincible, the Amazon Prime series, has taken the superhero genre to new heights with its captivating storyline, complex characters, and mature themes.
Created by Robert Kirkman, the series, based on his comic book of the same name, has garnered a massive following since its premiere in March 2021.
Season One’s Shocker
The first season of Invincible left audiences reeling with its shocking conclusion. Mark Grayson, the seemingly ordinary teenager voiced by Steven Yeun, discovers that he has inherited superhuman abilities from his father, Nolan Grayson, also known as Omni-Man, voiced by J.K. Simmons.
However, the revelation that Omni-Man is Earth’s most powerful villain sent to conquer the planet sets the stage for a devastating showdown. Their battle results in the death of thousands and the destruction of Chicago, leaving viewers eager to see where Season 2 will lead.
While the details of Season 2 remain under wraps, one thing is certain: Mark will grapple with the harsh reality of his father’s true intentions. The struggle to come to terms with Omni-Man’s malevolence promises to be a central theme, adding depth to Mark’s character.
Mark’s dual life as a superhero and a high school student will continue to be a focal point. Invincible stands out by portraying Mark’s origin story as a genuine challenge rather than a mere acceptance of power. The series explores the complexities of this balancing act, making it a more relatable and compelling narrative.
With Omni-Man’s departure from Earth at the end of Season 1, the question of his return looms large. Given the emotional weight of their relationship, it’s all but certain that Omni-Man will reappear at some point, adding further tension to the storyline.
Invincible Comic Book Inspiration
Fans of the series can draw insights from the source material, as Kirkman has hinted at the significance of the Season 1 montage, suggesting that it foreshadows crucial developments. Expect to witness Mark’s transformation into Earth’s protector and the potential exploration of storylines involving the Sequids’ plan to conquer Earth, Allen’s interstellar adventures, Titan’s criminal empire, and conflicts between Mark and Cecil.
The series revolves around Mark Grayson, a seemingly ordinary teenager who discovers that he has inherited superhuman abilities from his father, Omni-Man. Mark takes on the superhero moniker “Invincible” and starts his journey as a protector of the world.
However, as he delves deeper into the world of heroes and villains, he uncovers dark secrets about his family and the Guardians of the Globe, the world’s premier superhero team.
One of the standout features of Invincible is its willingness to explore complex and morally ambiguous themes. It delves into the consequences of superhuman actions and the weight of responsibility on these characters. The show addresses issues of power, corruption, and the sacrifices that come with being a hero.
It doesn’t shy away from gruesome violence, making it a more mature and thought-provoking addition to the superhero genre.
Returning Invincible Voices
Invincible‘s star-studded voice cast is set to return, including Steven Yeun as Mark Grayson/Invincible, Sandra Oh as Debbie Grayson, and J.K. Simmons as Omni-Man. The Journey of Mark Grayson
In essence, Invincible is about the journey of Mark Grayson, an ordinary teenager thrust into the extraordinary world of superheroes. Gifted with powers inherited from his father, he must navigate the complexities of being a hero while dealing with the revelation that his father is Earth’s greatest threat.
It had been a nearly two-year wait, but in 2023 fans finally got Invincible Season 2 on Amazon Prime Video. Although fans had to wait until late Fall to catch up with Mark Grayson and the rest of the crew, creator Robert Kirkman presented Invincible’s patient fan base with a special surprise to tide them over. It was a standalone episode that followed Atom Eve, voiced by Gillian Jacobs.
Season One Ended With A Shocker
(SPOILERS AHEAD)
We can’t know where we are going if we don’t know where we have been and the season one finale of Invincible was a perfect example of that. In it, Mark’s father Nolan/Omni-Man, the most powerful superhero on the planet and voiced by J. K. Simmons, finally revealed to his son to be the worst of the bad guys and sent to Earth to conquer it.
When Mark refuses to join his father, their resulting fight ended up killing thousands while destroying the city of Chicago.
So, with all of that destruction, chaos, and heartbreak, where will season 2 lead us?
The Invincible Season 2 Trailer Arrived
Unfortunately, not much was known about the Invincible season. Amazon Prime Video, Kirkman, and the cast were understandably coy about the direction of season 2, so what we passed along was some educated guessing.
What we knew for sure was that Mark would be struggling with the fact that his father is not the good guy he has portrayed Mark’s entire life. Knowing that his father is on Earth to conquer it and that he is the most powerful man on the planet, stood to make for an interesting Invincible season 2.
Along with that, Mark would also undoubtedly continue the tricky navigation between his superhero duties and his personal life. It had been one of the more impressive aspects of the series, watching Mark’s origin story as a struggle and not something he just willingly goes into.
With Nolan/Omni-Man leaving Earth at the end of season 1, we were not sure when or even if he would be returning. But with that storyline being so impactful, leaving Mark to twist as to who his father truly is, you could rest assured that Omni-Man would make a return to the series, if not in the first episode, but at some point down the line.
Fans could look to the source material (Kirkman was also the creator of the comic book series of the same name) as to what they might expect in season 2. Kirkman himself even made mention that everything fans saw in the montage that concluded season 1 was there to let everyone know everything that took place in that montage was important.
Invincible Season 2 Premiered on November 3, 2023
Invincible fans could rejoice! We knew they had an exact date to expect the season 2 premiere. Kirkman treated fans to this bit of knowledge when he appeared at the San Diego Comic-Con, dropping the news that fans have been waiting for.
Season 2 of Invincible dropped on November 3, 2023, on Amazon Prime Video. One more thing Kirkman said was that season 2 would, like season 1, consist of 8 episodes.
Invincible Season 2 will only air the first four episodes, once a week for four weeks on Amazon Prime. Then there will be a hiatus.
And now for the bad news. When season 2 premiered in November, fans would only get to see the first four episodes, once a week for four weeks. Then the series would be taking a hiatus until 2024.
There Was An Atom Eve Invincible Standalone Episode
Robert Kirkman was not done with his surprises at the San Diego Comic-Con. A little whetting of the appetite was in store for those in the audience when he presented a standalone episode of Invincible.
The episode featuresdAtom Eve (Gillian Jacobs) and told her origin story from the very beginning of her birth to the actual birth of her superpowers.
Not only did Kirkman thrill his San Diego Comic-Con audience with this special episode, but it is also now available for fans’ viewing pleasure on Amazon Prime Video.
Invincible Season 2 Returned Many Voices

Additionally, Gillian Jacobs was back as Atom Eve with Walter Goggins, Zachary Quinto, Ross Marquand, Jason Mantzoukas, and Khary Payton returning as well.
You’ve got to give Robert Kirkman credit. He really can pull in the vocal talent. Here is just a partial list of those who have been part of Invincible so far:

Invincible Is About Mark Grayson And His Journey As A Superhero
In Invincible Season 2, Mark Grayson faces a ton of new threats and challenges that push him to his limits, literally and figuratively. There’s the looming threat of the Viltrumite Empire’s invasion, as warned by General Kregg, forcing him to grapple with the potential need to convince Earth’s population to surrender.
Meanwhile, we got the introduction of Angstrom Levy, a major villain from the comics. He was voiced by Sterling Vrown. Plus, Mark also finds himself battling the Sequids in space, racing to prevent their potential takeover of Earth.
And who could forget the personal level where Mark is struggling with the emotional fallout of his father’s betrayal and the fear of following in his footsteps.
