A Quiet Place: Day One
A Quiet Place 2 from John Krasinski and Emily Blunt was pushed back so many times that we thought we might be writing stories about A Quiet Place 7 before we actually got to see it. Thankfully, the second film was released in 2021 and resuscitated movie theaters. Because that was able to lead to A Quiet Place 3 or A Quiet Place: Day One.
A Quiet Place 3 Will Be A Quiet Place: Day One And It Will Be A Prequel
The big news around this next movie in the franchise is that it will not be a follow-up to the last film. Instead, the franchise will go back in time, back to, you guessed it, the first day of the attacks.
From a story perspective, the movie deals with the confusion and terror about what is happening in this, all of a sudden, nightmare of a world.
Every sound is a deadly giveaway for the alien monsters who want nothing more than to pounce. Much should be the same, at least on that front, for A Quiet Place: Day One.
John Krasinski And Emily Blunt Are Not Returning On Screen
Again, because this movie is a prequel film, there is a whole new cast with a very similar set of problems.
But that means John Krasinski and Emily Blunt aren’t reprising their roles as Lee and Evelyn Abbott. Of course, Krasinski’s Lee was killed in the first movie, but the nature of the prequel would have left the door open to him returning.
But that isn’t the case with this movie; it focuses on another group of survivors. However, there will be some folks from the original movies.
Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, And Alex Wolff Star In A Quiet Place: Day One
The main cast for A Quiet Place: Day One features some up-and-coming Hollywood stars who’ve left their marks in other productions so far.
For starters, there’s Lupita Nyong’o who played Nakia in Black Panther and then reprised the role in Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. Having a role in the Marvel Cinematic Universe is about as big as it gets at this point. But she also starred in Us, Jordan Peele’s follow-up to Get Out.
And then there is Joseph Quinn who gets top billing in A Quiet Place: Day One. Quinn is best known now for his part as Eddie Munson in the fourth season of Stranger Things.
The D&D-loving heavy metal thrasher was a fan-favorite character on the Netflix series though was dealt a crushing blow when he didn’t make it out of the Upside Down.
Alex Wolff has a major role as well. He was featured in Pig (which will make sense in a second) and also had role in the Jumanji franchise. Plus, he is maybe best known for Naked Brothers Band.
Finally, Djimon Hounsou reprises his role as the Man on the Island who we met in the second movie.
Michael Sarnoski Directs And Wrote The Screenplay
John Krasinski was reportedly handing over creative duties to Jeff Nichols on A Quiet Place: Day One. Nichols is known for both writing and directing his films which include Shotgun Stories, Take Shelter, Mud, Midnight Special, and Loving.
This looked like a nice bridge to a new voice, but that will no longer be the case. Nichols stepped away from A Quiet Place: Day One and the potential spin-off movie.
In stepped Michael Sarnoski to handle both the writing and directing duties for this movie. He’s best known for writing and directing Pig (told you we would get this) which starred Nicolas Cage as a truffle hunter living in the Oregon woods. Wolff played opposite Cage in that film.
The movie was a critical smash and put Sarnoski on the map as one of the most sought-after talents in the industry.
John Krasinksi Had Ideas About A Quiet Place: Day One While Writing The First Movie
Even though Krasinski had handed the writing and directing reins to Nichols, Krasinski was still planning to have input on A Quiet Place: Day One. The third story in the series will be based on an original idea from Krasinski.
It was his wife, series star Emily Blunt, who sort of pushed him into the possibility of a trilogy after she had read his script for A Quiet Place 2.
She felt that there was more story to tell and that a third movie could wrap things up. This got Krasinski to thinking she may be right and that a third movie was possible.
Krasinski spoke to Collider about a possible A Quiet Place 3, long before it was announced. “It’s interesting, I genuinely hadn’t thought about a second one when I was doing the first one. However, I really had these questions while I was doing it. I put the fires out in the distance in the first one, and I always thought to myself, ‘Wouldn’t it be cool if we got to explore where those fires lead to? Who’s on the other end of those fires?’”
He continued, “But I never thought that there would be a sequel. So then when I actually came around to writing the sequel, I started with the fires. And so this time, I think when my brain started wandering of questions of what would this mean later on, I started to write down notes in case I could prepare myself for a third one (A Quiet Place 3).”
