Elon Musk Says Tesla Is Going To Help Create Sentient Artificial Intelligence
Elon Musk seems to think that the work they are doing with Tesla and a new robot initiative will bring on true artificial intelligence

It’s only a matter of time before robots fully take over the world. We are kind of in the “when” not “if” territory with that eventuality. At this point we should just sit back and let it happen, hoping that these bad boys take a more complacent approach to world domination than what we saw in the Terminator movies and other end-of-days scenarios. And when it all goes down, when the Matrix finally spins up, we might have Elon Musk to “thank” for it. That’s because the tech pioneer seems to think Tesla is going to have a hand in AGI, or artificial general intelligence, or the ability for machines to have the same thoughts and intellect as regular old human beings. This is it, folks, we are on the razor’s edge here.
Elon Musk sent out a tweet this week claiming that the artificial intelligence being built around Tesla could give way to further advancements (if you want to call them that) in the field. Specifically, he mentions Optimus, the humanoid robot the company is planning on building. Combining these ideas, Musk seems to think that the car company’s work and this new initiative will bring forth sentient thought in machines. Check it out:
In his tweet, Elon Musk mentions the Tesla artificial intelligence training against the outside world. This is a reference to the car company’s work in making their vehicles able to go driverless, relying only on the system to make all decisions for the car. This training of artificial intelligence is critical in allowing the vehicles to operate completely independently of human interaction because it needs to “learn” about all available and possible contingencies. Musk is then combining this work with that of Optimus, the planned humanoid bot the company is developing that will be able to perform basic human tasks and work.
Artificial general intelligence, or strong AI, is the ability for machines or, in this case, programs to learn in the same way humans do, to begin thinking and problem-solving on the same exact level (or beyond). Weaker artificial intelligence is meant to solve specific problems or tasks. AGI, as Musk is intimating, will be much beyond that, the ability for machines, robots, programs, whatever to think critically around all problems. This is the basis around human thought and a scary proposition when considering how it plays out in the long term. It would appear that Elon Musk and Tesla have all of the necessary components to give it a shot. They are already basically working in the field, developing systems around this very idea.
Elon Musk has long been warning about the perils of artificial intelligence proliferation, and seemingly had been working to push folks away from the idea, saying there was true peril for the human race once we reached the singularity. But with this tweet, he might be giving up the ghost. If the prevailing idea is that it’s going to happen anyway, which Elon Musk has also said, then why not have Tesla be at the forefront of the apocalypse?
