Twitch Bans Its Most Popular Streamer For A Second Time
Twitch streamer Kai Cenat was banned again from the platform for the second time this year.
Twitch just banned its most popular streamer, Kai Cenat. The ban was officially issued on April 17, marking the second ban the streamer received in 2023, with his fans calling for him to switch platforms. This is hardly the first time the platform banned a high-profile content creator; in 2020, a popular streamer sued the company over a permanent ban, and in an unrelated incident, the streamer collective was boycotting the company over its inability to create a safe gaming environment.
Now, according to Game Rant, Twitch banned Kai Cenat from its streaming platform. As always, the reason behind the ban remains undisclosed by the company, but some insider sources listed several possible reasons why the streamer was barred. As previously mentioned, the most recent ban is the second one this year and the fifth in streamers’ relatively short career—which started in 2021. Cenat has previously received a Streamer of the Year award after his account experienced unprecedented growth in 2022. So, why did Twitch ban its most successful streamer?
Twitch has a non-disclosure policy, which allows the company to ban streamers who violate the company’s Terms of Service without offering any explanation. So far, the company has maintained that right in nearly every incident we can think of. However, the other side of the coin states that streamers, who are sometimes aware of their mistake, sometimes simply don’t want to disclose what they did wrong. However, unverified sources indicate that Kai Cenat got banned for repeated explicit simulated activity in Grand Theft Auto.
Kai Cenat, just like most Twitch streamers, often plays games on his channel, and if he truly simulated sexual acts in GTA, he directly violated Twitch’s Terms of Service. However, some sources indicate that this ban, just like all previous ones, is just temporary. Three out of four previous bans from the platform lasted three days each, and the most severe punishment saw the streamer suspended from Twitch for 30 days. Following that particular ban, the streamer announced his plans to move to Kick, Twitch’s latest and greatest rival, but he continued to stream on Twitch once the ban was lifted.
But Kai Cenat’s departure from Twitch is still in the cards. After he became Twitch’s number one streamer, Twitch sent Kai a gift as the company’s token of appreciation. Unfortunately, instead of a lucrative contract—which is usually the practice—Kai received a pair of Purple Nikes from Twitch, which was a letdown for the streamer and his entire fandom. However, Twitch’s rival Kick, seeing the streamer’s underwhelming reaction, sent Kai a pair of custom Nike x OffWhite Air Force 1s—which he actually liked and welcomed.
Many are now wondering if Kai Cenat is leaving Twitch—whose users are tracked by the Secret Service—for Kick, and the option isn’t excluded. Kick is rattling the streamer sphere right now by directly going for Twitch’s jugular, stating that the company wouldn’t withhold information from its streamers or their user base regarding the company’s actions. They even went the extra mile to try and win Kai Cenat over by sending a thoughtful, personalized gift.
