The recently released The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt next-gen update honors Henty Cavill in the best possible way — by introducing the contents from The Witcher Netflix series. Admittedly, this is something that the fandom was previously familiar with, but CD Projekt RED went on and implemented a special easter egg put in the game specifically for Henry Cavill — who also happened to be a massive fan of Andrzej Sapkowski’s Wiedzmin franchise, and all the work connected to it. According to ComicBook.com, one of the best references is the addition of Kal, Henry Cavill’s dog, into the game.

This was also shared by the game’s Acting Narrative Director and Lead Quest Designer, Phillip Weber, who expressed the studio’s desire to show appreciation for the great passion and enthusiasm Cavill has shown for The Witcher while portraying the franchise’s protagonist, Geralt of Rivia. The doggo can be found in the Devil’s Pit after players have concluded The Witcher 3’s narrative with a good ending.

Weber also references Cavill’s Superman role, pointing towards the fact that the British actor was reportedly sacked by the newly formed DC Studios led by James Gunn. The new co-CEO of DC Studios stated that the expanding DC Universe will now tie gaming releases into its canon, revealing that he’s writing another Superman movie that won’t involve Henry Cavill — arguably the best Superman actor since Christopher Reeve. In fact, it’s entirely possible that Cavill left The Witcher to become Superman once again, though it’s alleged that he had creative differences with Netflix producers regarding his role.

The actor later stated that he wouldn’t return to The Witcher, despite him being dropped as Superman. Instead, words got out that Amazon has reached an agreement with Games Workshop to create a Warhammer 40K cinematic universe, with Henry Cavill — a noted Warhammer 40K fan — serving as an executive producer. As for The Witcher 3 game, players have been ostensibly pleased with the renewed game, though PC gamers have been reporting performance issues. CD Projekt RED had delivered upon their promise to bring better performance to consoles, along with a plethora of other features as well.

These have included a  new camera angle for The Witcher 3 game, similar to the ones implemented in modern games such as the recently released God of War Ragnarok. There’s also a new, alternative method of casting Signs, more content inspired by the Netflix series, and much, much more — including the aforementioned addition of Kal to the game. You can greet him after completing the new questline featured in the Devil’s Pit — an area that was previously associated with the game’s crafting system.

As it turns out, hackers and data miners have disclosed that the questline in that area previously existed within the game, but it fell victim to content cut in The Witcher 3 release build. It’s quite possible that CD Projekt RED saw this release as an opportunity to reinstate some content and add some more, giving the Devil’s Pit purpose and honoring Henry Cavill’s fantastic performance in The Witcher television series.
