Superman Game In The Works From Batman Developer?
A new Superman game is rumored to be on the way.

The gaming world witnessed a plethora of DC comics superhero-themed video games over the past 15 years, most of which were both a commercial and critical success. However, most of those games were focused on the Justice League, the critically acclaimed Injustice gaming series, and Batman – an IP that received over 17 titular games. The fandom’s biggest disappointment regarding DC Comics-based video games is the absence of a stand-alone Superman game. Well, that disappointment might come to an end because a Superman game might be in the works at the Batman’s developer.
It seems that the upcoming action RPG Gotham Knights isn’t the only title Warner Bros. Games Montreal currently has in the works. According to PlayStation LifeStyle, a recent job listing from the company hints that the team is working on a new triple-A IP, developing a third-person action game with an open-world setting. The advert is for a Senior Game Designer who will design playable characters for a third-person open-world action game, which could fit the premise of Gotham Knights; industry insiders believe that the ad is linked to the new IP.
The advert was first spotted by ResetEra’s serial leaker James Sigfiled, hinting that the unannounced project is likely to be a Superman game, with Warner Bros. Games Montreal’s Creative Director dropping subtle references to the superhero as well. This reinvigorated the speculations about a long-rumored Superman game. However, previous rumors linked the title to Rocksteady Studios, which developed three out of five entries in the Batman: Arkham series. Regardless, the skeptics brushed off the notion back then, as they’re doing right now, due to the advert’s explicit mention of a new IP.
Those favoring a new Superman game quickly pointed out that the currently-developing Gotham Knights counts as an original intellectual property due to its lack of connection to the well-established Arkham series and its protagonist, Batman. In the same light, the new Superman game would technically count as a “new IP” for the developer, even though Superman is already a well-established character. So there still might be hope for the gaming world’s Superman fans.
And truth be told, the fandom deserves a new Superman game. His last game was 2006’s Superman Returns, which was an exceptionally underwhelming gaming experience according to many critics. While the Man of Steel appeared in other titles, like the Injustice series, many feel that 15 years for a titular game is too long. With that said, it’s tough to make a good Superman game; the hero is unbeatable in most instances, making it hard for the developers to create a fun-to-play title. Reportedly, Warner Bros. has already canned two Superman games since 2013, one of which was, allegedly, in development at WB Games Montreal and the other at Rocksteady Games.
Unfortunately, unfounded speculations like these should be taken with a grain of salt. Without official announcements by Warner Bros. Games Montreal, nobody but the company knows what they’re cooking. It might be a new Superman game but we simply don’t know enough yet. Meanwhile, the Man of Steel will be showing up in the upcoming Rocksteady game, Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League.
