In one of the more upsetting and crushing announcements yet, the new Suicide Squad video game is being delayed by an entire year. The news comes from the director of the game and Rocksteady Studios. Sadly, this is the usual case for most games currently, as delays are now the norm due to the messy launch of Cyberpunk 2077. That game saw one of the worst launches in history, and as such, most other game studios are not wanting to replicate what CD Projekt Red got themselves into, so they would rather make sure their titles are in great condition before release. You can read the delay announcement from Sefton Hill below:
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League has been in development for a long time, and this delay is only furthering the impatience that we all feel about its release. The game was initially announced during the DC Fandom event in 2020. Though there was only a small offering of a cinematic trailer, we were all wondering what the gameplay would look like. Well, it wasn’t long until that happened, as more footage was released last year. However, the game was given a 2022 release date. Fans began to see more about what it would be like to control the ragtag group of anti-heroes and were hoping to get their chance to control Captain Boomerang, King Shark, Harley Quinn, and Deadshot. Sadly, we will now have to wait another year.
The good news is that another year of development means that Rocksteady Studios can fine-tune everything that they are hoping Suicide Squad can and will be. This will be the first game released by the studio since 2015’s Arkham Knight. Though we are going to have to impatiently wait for this new DC beat-em-up, WB Games Montreal is still on schedule to release their Batman spin-off, Gotham Knights, which is set to release on October 25th. That game will see players take control of Nightwing, Robin, Red Hood, and Batgirl in a coop-styled adventure. This will have to keep us busy while we wait for Suicide Squad.
The Suicide Squad story has garnered plenty of popularity as of late, considering there have been two movies made about the team. The initial film was written and directed by David Ayer but received a ton of complaints and criticism. The 2016 film would then be followed up by an alternate version made by the famed director of the Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn. The Gunn version was released in 2021 and went over well with both critics and audiences. That film led to a spin-off series about John Cena’s character, Peacemaker. The HBO series was also a hit and has been since approved for a second season. Now that the game has been delayed to 2023, it stands to reason that the story of the Suicide Squad is not going away any time soon.
Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League takes players on a whirlwind adventure as they control any one of the above-mentioned anti-heroes. When Metropolis is in peril as Brainiac has taken over the world and brainwashed several of the heroes. Heroes that we all know including Superman, The Flash, and Green Lantern are now being controlled with Wonder Woman unaffected and seeking help from any available heroes. However, there are none left that hasn’t been controlled by Brainiac, so now it’s up to Harley Quinn, Captain Boomerang, King Shark, and Deadshot to save the day. Players will be able to play single-player and switch between all four of these characters, or play in a four-way cooperative mode. Look out for the game in the spring of 2023.
