As we previously mentioned, the Stargate media universe is getting back into the world of video gaming with its upcoming game titled Stargate: Timekeepers. The game’s announcement came over a week ago, on May 11, 2021, right after Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer approved its development, and its publisher, Slitherine, dropped a teaser trailer for the upcoming release.
You can now watch the new Stargate video game trailer right here:
The trailer for Stargate: Timekeepers reveals very little about the game itself, offering scarce visual information, except for its title and the teams behind it. The gate’s firing sequence is smash-cut by small blocks of text, which reveal the Stargate video game’s developers and publishers, mentioning their other works. Titles like Warhammer 40,000: Gladius, Battlestar Galactica Deadlock, and Starship Troopers: Terran Command are all prominent strategy game titles published by Slitherine Games. The gate then locks its final chevron into place, sending the viewers through a wormhole leading to a title reveal that reads “Stargate: Timekeepers, coming to PC.” If you ask the fans of the franchise, it has been a long time coming.
Unfortunately, the teaser trailer doesn’t divulge any other information regarding the upcoming title, apart from its developer and publisher. However, it’s worth noting that we’re discussing the first Stargate video game licensed by MGM since the previous gaming title of the franchise, Stargate: Resistance, went offline a decade ago, breaking the fans’ hearts. The newly announced Stargate video game’s storyline will start at the conclusion episode of Season 7 of the Stargate SG-1 TV series, creating an entirely new story during the events of Battle of Antarctica.
While minor gameplay elements remain unknown, Timekeepers’ main narrative will center around time travel, taking players on various adventures throughout the critical points in the franchise’s timeline. It’s unclear whether you’ll control or work alongside Commander Eva McCain during the Timekeepers’ main narrative. Still, the game will take you on several side missions adjacent to the brand new story, in which you’ll save allies and civilians while fighting System Lords in the game’s main narrative.
Very little detail is known about the project at the time of writing, except that it’s still in its early development stage, which leaves most things susceptible to change, and years may pass by before we see a working title on our PC screens. With that said, Stargate video game’s developer, Creative Forge Games, has worked on a few prominent and highly-ranked titles, like Phantom Doctrine and Ancient Space, with a long list of developing titles – one of which is the upcoming brand-new Stargate video game.
The upcoming game’s publisher, Slitherine, produced over 200 strategy and war-based video games for several gaming platforms, which only attests to their ability to make a good-quality game. We expect them to do good by the franchise and even better by the franchise’s fandom. Hopefully, this signals a renewed interest in the series and we can see even more announcements that signal the return of the franchise in pop culture.
