Okay, we’ll admit that the title is a bit misleading; the best game in the Resident Evil franchise, Resident Evil 4, has already got its VR version. What we truly meant to say is that the second-best Resident Evil game, the last year’s Resident Evil Village, is getting a VR version of the game — a gaming experience many fans of the Resident Evil 8 game had hoped for. Luckily, Sony has been in a wish-granting mood lately, and the aforementioned game is set to release on the PSVR2 system.

According to IGN, the VR version of Resident Evil 8 was announced during Thursday’s Sony State of Play, alongside other prominent titles. The reveal trailer showed off gameplay from various sections from within the game in VR. The reveal is accompanied by a post on the PlayStation Blog, which is confirmed that the entire story campaign of the game will be playable in VR — a pretty exhilarating experience. However, we have to point out that the post also reiterates that the PSVR2 system for PlayStation 5 is still in development.

Yet, it will be utilizing the platform’s 4K display, 3D audio, and eye-tracking technology while also allowing gamers to use Sense controllers as their hands in-game, allowing them to pick up items and weapons and use them directly. Unfortunately, the VR version of Resident Evil 8 still hasn’t got an official release window or a release date, nor whether the PSVR 2 support is an update to the base game or an entirely different version of the game itself.

There’s also no indication of PC and Xbox versions of Resident Evil 8 going VR in the future. The PC fandom of the Resident Evil franchise had long hoped that the previous installment in the franchise, Resident Evil Biohazard, would come to PC VR, but that never happened, so we wouldn’t hold our breath. With that said, it took Resident Evil 4, the game that redefined the third-person action games, nearly 15 years to come to VR on the PC, so there’s still some lingering hope that modern titles will transition to PC VR once they acquire classic’s status.

As per our previous report, on the note of high hopes and best Resident Evil games, the fan-favorite entry in the franchise, Resident Evil 4, is finally getting a remake, and its narrative may be connected to Resident Evil 8. The welcomed news was also dropped during the State of Play, and fans can now let out a sigh of relief, knowing that their favorite entry is getting renewed for newer hardware — after it has been ported to nearly all devices in the past, bar perhaps cigarette lighters, and door knobs. You may think we’re being sarcastic, but there are people playing games on smart-enabled refrigerators.

We’d like to point out that Resident Evil 7 was a major gaming release for the original PSVR, so we can expect Resident Evil 8 to be the same for the upcoming VR set, which is scheduled to release in early 2023. It’s entirely possible for Resident Evil 8 VR to be a part of the gaming line-up for the PSVR2’s release. We’ll keep the readership updated as the yarn unravels.
