PlayStation’s subscription service, PlayStation Plus, decided to start the New Year’s celebrations early, by announcing the PlayStation Plus gaming trio available on January 4, until February 1, 2022, as the first PlayStation Plus games for the new year. According to IGN, PlayStation Plus subscribers will be granted access to 2020’s Persona 5 Strikers, 2020’s Dirt 5, and 2018’s Deep Rock Galactic video games as part of the new deal in celebration of the upcoming year. As published in the PlayStation.Blog, all three gaming titles will be available to all subscribers during the duration of their subscription. This comes after December’s fantastic deal, which includes Godfall: Challenger Edition, Mortal Shell, and Lego DC Super-Villains — all of which are still available for download through January 3, 2022.
PlayStation 4’s Persona 5 Strikers is a spin-off whose narrative features Persona 5’s Phantom Thieves and resumes the story a few months after the end of the original game. However, unlike the original game, which featured a turn-based combat system, Person 5 Strikers is much more focused on combo-driven hack and slash action akin to the Dynasty Warriors gaming series. Picking up Strikers without playing the main storyline might be confusing, but it’s a must-have and must-play for die-hard fans of the Persona series.
Dirt 5, a PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 gaming title, is the second game PlayStation Plus offers to its subscribers starting January 4. It’s an amplified off-road racing experience, featuring 70 tracks across a dozen of worldwide locations. The game ships with a complete career mode, four-play split-screen option, online multiplayer component, a Playground creator mode, and several other features. It was released in 2020 and received Best Sports/Racing game at The Game Awards that year and was listed as the 5th best game on PlayStation 5. With that said, the game was released on multiple platforms, increasing its accessibility to the gaming community.
Deep Rock Galactic makes its PlayStation debut as a PlayStation Plus video game two years after its “almost exclusive” Microsoft release (PC, Xbox). Deep Rock Galactic is a four-player co-op shooter in which gamers take on the roles of space dwarfs, embarking on an incredible adventure littered with exciting combat, great missions, and plenty of upgrades. It features a 100% destructible environment, procedurally-generated caves, and endless hordes of alien monstrosities.
Of course, gamers would have to rely on their teammates and work together as a team to dig, explore, and fight their way through massive cave systems filled with endless waves of enemies and valuable resources. Anyone interested in playing this game can obtain it free of charge starting January 4, 2022.
The celebration of New Year continues across several digital storefronts and not just PlayStation Plus. Epic Games continues issuing discount cards for titles featured on its storefront, GOG is offering incredible discounts as well, and Steam is offering some AAA titles, like Shadow of War, for up to 85% off. However, after months of offering fantastic gaming titles for free, there’s very little offering from Amazon Prime Games.
