PlayStation Plus Is Getting The Best Star Wars Game For Free
PlayStation Plus Essential tier is getting Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order for free in January.
PlayStation Plus Essential—Sony’s base PlayStation Plus subscription plan—offers the best Star Wars game, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, for free. Next to the game that doesn’t need an introduction (but we’ll introduce it anyway), PlayStation Plus is also offering Fallout 76, which was recently invaded by aliens, and Axiom Verge 2, a Metroidvania platformer released in 2021. Those interested in playing said titles will be able to add them to their private gaming libraries on January 3, 2023.
According to IGN, the games will become available for all PlayStation Plus members, and the aforementioned Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is perhaps the biggest of the three titles. The game was released in 2019 as a single-player adventure set in between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope. It was and still is an absolute hit among gamers, and it’s often cited as one of the best Star Wars games ever made. It followed the story of Cal Kestis, the last Jedi Padawan, trying to complete his Jedi training following Emperor Palpatine’s Order 66.
This game will grant players the opportunity to follow Cal Kestis’s story from the beginning of the narrative before the story is continued in the upcoming game, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, in March next year. The upcoming game is one of the highly-anticipated Star Wars titles, next to the troubled remake of Knights of the Old Republic, which was saved from cancelation less than six months ago following reports regarding turbulent development.
Next on the PlayStation Plus free list is 2018’s Fallout 76, an action RPG developed by Microsoft’s Bethesda Game Studios as a prequel to the entire series. The narrative follows a protagonist and his fellow Vault Dwellers, which emerge from the nuclear hideouts 25 years after the nuclear apocalypse. Gamers can go through the narrative solo or have their friends join their exploration, questing, building, and fighting against some of the wasteland’s greatest threats. Fallout 76 is actually an open-world multiplayer component to the Fallout story, set in the largest and most dynamic game world in the Fallout franchise.
Axiom Verge 2 is an entirely different title from the previous two. The free PlayStation Plus game is made with 8-bit aesthetics in mind, permeated with very modern effects, which give this platformer quite a unique feel. The gamers can explore two connected worlds, wield ancient technology, and question reality itself as they explore an alternate version of Earth where ancient civilizations survived the high-tech era before succumbing to the greatest eroding force — time.
The arrival of new games means the unfortunate departure of December’s gaming titles. Admittedly, gamers still have the opportunity to download several great gaming titles, including the fantastic-looking remastered Mass Effect, and add them to their library of games. December’s free games are departing Sony’s subscription service on January 2, 2023, so anyone interested in these games should hurry up, as they’re only available for a few more days.
The addition of Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, Fallout 76, and Axiom Verge 2 are a bit surprising, coming from Sony. The company offers free games every month, but in most cases, we’re discussing less popular gaming titles. Apparently, Sony’s looking to increase their subscriber count going into the new year.
