Metal Gear Solid 4 Getting Remastered?
Konami seems to be teasing a remake of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriot.
One of the highlights of Sony’s PlayStation Showcase last year, besides the handheld PlayStation 5 showcase, was the confirmation of a year-long rumor that Konami is remaking Metal Gear Solid 3, which is now officially announced. Now, it would seem that Konami is teasing a remake of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, a hit entry in the acclaimed gaming franchise.
According to ComicBook.com, Konami might’ve just teased a Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots remake in their latest announcement. Following the announcement of the Metal Gear Solid 3 remake, now called Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater, Konami published a graphic message from the development team currently working on the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1. The message features all three games’ box art; however, there’s also a fourth, blank slot, with nothing but a question mark in it.
Considering that Konami has enumerated its upcoming Metal Gear Solid collections, it’s safe to assume that other Metal Gear Solid remakes might be on their way, including the aforementioned Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Will the fourth remake drop with the Collection Vol. 1? Not impossible, but highly improbable; Konami only announced three games, and it makes very little sense to put four mainline games into a single collection volume and reserve the second volume for the franchise’s fifth installment and ill-fated Metal Gear Survive.
It’s much more likely for Konami to reserve the second volume for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots and Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain, with the addition of Metal Gear Survive. That would round up both volumes with three games each. But there’s a third option, the one we’d like to see the most: Konami, alongside the rest of gaming, forgets Metal Gear Survive and instead surprises the gamers with a brand-new Metal Gear Solid mainline installment which would resolve all the issues left behind by the fifth game.
We’d also like to see that new game made by Hideo Kojima, but we’re already asking for the impossible. As for Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, the game was originally released in 2008, and besides turning the PlayStation 3 debacle into a Sony success story, it’s also dubbed as one of the genre-defining stealth games, that unfortunately remained stuck on PlayStation 3. All other games were either released on PlayStation 4 or, in the case of the first three games, were given an HD remaster and released on PS3 and the iconic Xbox 360.
Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots follows Old Snake, who has rapidly aged due to genetic changes as part of his cloning process, as he faces off against Liquid Snake one final time in Hideo Kojima’s universally acclaimed masterpiece. Unfortunately, the game remained stuck on its native console due to its PS3-exclusive status, and due to the console’s unique architecture, newer consoles, such as PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, can’t reproduce it through backward compatibility.
Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 will release this Fall for the PlayStation 5. Unfortunately, Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots won’t be a part of the collection, but if everything goes right and the gaming public shows interest, Konami is likely to oblige.
