Metal Gear Solid Collection: Volume 2 Games Have Been Leaked?
Leaked information supports theories that Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots is coming to modern consoles.
Following the announcement of Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater as part of the upcoming Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1, which encompasses the first three games, Konami teased the remake of Metal Gear Solid IV: Guns of the Patriots in one of their posts. Now, it would seem the details regarding Metal Gear Solid Collection Volume 2, which is speculated to contain the remake of the iconic PS3 game, have been leaked.
According to VGC, following the announcement of the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1 on Wednesday, as well as the collection’s official release date and platforms, Twitter user Nitroid found that the franchise’s official website had added buttons to its franchise timeline for the games included in the announced collection.
He also noted that there are placeholder buttons for Metal Gear Solid IV: Guns of the Patriots, Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain, and Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker.
Following Nitroid’s discovery, IGN reported on the rumors suggesting that the latter three gaming titles are to be included in the unannounced Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2. The timeline on the MGS website and any rumors are just that—speculative and inconclusive.
However, as Nitroid noted, the webpage was heavily updated, with the added History section that coincides with the Nintendo Direct announcement. Furthermore, the newly placed button for the first three games doesn’t actually link to the respective pages of the original games, which are still active.
Instead, they link towards the newly created pages for games that are scheduled to be released as part of Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1. The other three buttons, the inactive ones, also don’t link to pages for the latter three original releases—pages that still exist and are operational.
While this isn’t indicative of future game releases, it does suggest that the new pages for these games are forthcoming. This means only the canonical games missing from the Master Collection currently have inactive buttons on the timeline page.
Again, this isn’t really indicative of anything, and readers should take this information with the grain of salt, at least until Konami officially elaborates. But then again, why would the company leave half of the franchise from its timeline page, especially since it already has working web pages linking to the games?
It sure reads like the Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2 is in the works. Why wouldn’t it be? Sure, The Phantom Pain is already available on modern systems. But what about Guns of the Patriots and Peace Walker?
Guns of the Patriots has been stuck on the PlayStation 3 console for more than a decade now, and fans are clamoring for the remake of a hit stealth game that played a crucial role in PlayStation’s victory as the King of the 7th generation of the home video game consoles, after a whole year of trying to catch up to the Xbox 360.
Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 1 is scheduled to release for Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Nintendo Switch on October 24. Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Volume 2, however, still remains in the domain of wishful thinking.
The Metal Gear franchise remains one of the most popular video game titles of all time. Even the soundtrack is beloved, ending up on numerous best game soundtrack of all-time lists.
