The Mandalorian video game

Disney’s pushing its Star Wars franchise into expansion, with several upcoming TV shows, movies, and video games. We recently covered a story about the rumors surrounding the Knights of the Old Republic video game remake. However, according to new, albeit unconfirmed rumors circulating the web right now, someone’s making a video game based on The Mandalorian television series. But who?

In a story covered by MovieWeb, someone’s developing a Star Wars video game based on The Mandalorian television series produced by Disney+. The rumor stemmed from a video of Phil Spencer, who is known for teasing upcoming releases on his videos and streams. Before this particular event, Spencer had an Xbox One console on his shelf months before the console was officially revealed. This specific rumor sparked when fans saw what appeared to be a Mandalorian Funko Pop in one of Spencer’s online photographs. However, the Funko Pop in question was actually Arbiter from the Halo series.

The figurine was first spotted by Nick “Shpeshal Ed” Baker, who was the first to point it out, in a now-deleted tweet, saying that “someone is making a Mandalorian game. Not sure who yet. Sorry.” After realizing that the Funko Pop in the video wasn’t The Mandalorian, Baker deleted the tweet, but not before the news went viral. In his follow-up tweet, Baker explained that he might’ve disclosed information he wasn’t supposed to. He pointed out his mistake regarding the Mandalorian Funko and added that this doesn’t mean that the information he disclosed isn’t accurate. In the end, Baker has proven to be a reliable source of information in the past.

Regardless of the confusion, the news captivated the fandom, which has been calling for The Mandalorian video game since the series’ first season on Disney+. And for a good reason – the TV show’s visual effects are made using the Unreal Engine technology, which was created for use in video games. Fans have previously pointed out that the entire series has a game-like feeling, with Mando’s side resembling side quests from a video game. So, a video game based on The Mandalorian might be a real hit. Without any announcements from Disney, LucasFilm, or any of the game developing studios, this information remains just an unconfirmed rumor.

Even without a video game based on The Mandalorian, the Star Wars’ gaming division fans still have something to look forward to. Ubisoft is currently developing an open-world game based on the franchise, and there is some rumor about the development of the Knight of the Old Republic remake. But that’s not the only development fandom should look forward to; there’s a plethora of new, upcoming spin-offs and sequels under development, including The Book of Boba Fett, Ranger of the New Republic, and Ahsoka.

The Mandalorian television show came from a creative pen of Jon Favreau and premiered on Disney+, reaching massive success, almost instantaneously. The show’s second season was also well-received, and Disney’s hoping to keep the train going with season three and several spin-offs in current development. Given the show’s popularity and a massive roster of Star Wars games, a Mandalorian-based game might just be inevitable at one point. Maybe it already is.
