Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom Suffers a Gigantic Leak
A Redditor leaked a ton of content from the upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
The upcoming The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom video game is perhaps the one to carry Nintendo Switch to the number one place as the world’s best-selling console since the scope of features included in the game exceeds everything we saw in the Breath of the Wild. From the purported multiplayer to Link’s new abilities and Amiibo functions, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom seems to be a treasure trove of surprises. Unfortunately, a gigantic leak just spoiled a good portion of those surprises.
According to Kotaku, a massive content leak dropped less than a week ago, revealing some of the game’s content only months ahead of its release. The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is scheduled to release on May 12, offering several different editions of the game. The game’s collector edition comes with a 204-page artbook that details some of the concept art of Link and other characters for the game, including some newly introduced characters, as well as artwork of some of the new enemies and locations from within the game.
The content leaked on Reddit’s GamingLeaksAndRumors subreddit, but it was removed by the moderators shortly after—the reasons behind their decision to remove content might have something to do with Nintendo’s history of aggressive legal actions against those who infringe upon their intellectual property in any way. The leaked art book was the Japanese version, which made it somewhat difficult to discern what exactly it related to, but the images contained in it are pretty clear.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom artbook contains several images of Link wearing costumes, different outfit designs for both allies and friends, sketches of bad guys, and plenty of in-game environment illustrations that were without any context. Pretty vague stuff, to be entirely honest, and without proper explanation, this leak is more akin to a pretty nifty book containing plenty of nice-looking The Legend of Zelda pictures—the way it should be. Remember, we’re discussing an art book that accompanies the game.
Presence of any revealing content in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom artbook would defeat the whole point of Nintendo’s over-the-top secrecy. Actually, it’s really surprising that anything related to the game managed to leak, considering that Nintendo does a pretty good job of keeping their upcoming content under wraps. But even the things that leaked aren’t of any consequence—they just reveal some of the elements we’ve already seen; there aren’t any actual spoilers regarding the game and its narrative.
The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom is a sequel to the massively successful Breath of the Wild, which was released in 2017 and went on to become one of the best video games ever made. The sequel was originally planned as a DLC to the 2017 game, but since the development team came up with too many ideas—some of which couldn’t be implemented within a DLC — the content turned into a new game entirely. It’s quite possible that The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will extend the lifespan of Nintendo Switch for at least a year or two, challenging the rule of PS2.
