Hideo Kojima Had To Entirely Rewrite Death Stranding 2
Celebrated video game developer Hideo Kojima, who recently set up a partnership deal with Xbox, recently revealed Death Stranding 2 — a sequel to the legendary Death Stranding game from 2019. However, according to the developer himself, he had to rewrite the entire Death Stranding 2 from scratch due to the COVID-19 pandemic since most of his games are known to predict the future. Not only that, but he also revealed that he canceled the game after a television project aired, which coincided with the elements of the game’s narrative.
According to IGN, Hideo Kojima has earned a reputation for predicting the future with the gaming franchises he produced. For example, Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty was far ahead of its time in portraying just how quickly misinformation can spread through online and broadcast media. And the original Death Stranding’s themes of loneliness were parallel with the COVID-19 lockdowns that had propelled the gaming industry forward but shook the console and chip manufacturing to the industry’s core — the consequences of which are going to continue in 2023.
In fact, when the original Death Stranding first launched, some gamers thought that the enemies you occasionally encounter in post-apocalyptic America, scavengers ready to fight you over stolen delivery goods, were over the top. But the pandemic proved said gamers wrong. Hideo Kojima stated that he had the entire story for Death Stranding 2 already written before the pandemic but decided to rewrite the whole story from scratch once the pandemic hit. His reasons for doing so are derived from the fact that some of his games have predicted some of the world’s later problems.
So, we can understand why he decided to rewrite the game, and we have no doubt that the rewritten copy is a masterpiece equal to the original game. We expect nothing less from the legendary game maker. As for the upcoming Death Stranding 2, Hideo Kojima remained as tight-lipped as possible, but he said that the trailer reveals plenty of information for those who pay attention to details. Well, we can always rely on Norman Reedus to divulge some information about Kojima’s upcoming gaming release.
The original Death Stranding was released in 2019, featuring plenty of talent besides Reedus, including Mads Mikkelsen and Lea Seydoux. Just like numerous games coming from the Land of the Rising Sun, Death Stranding was also a PlayStation exclusive before Kojima provided a Director’s Cut and had the game released on PC platforms as well. Needless to say, the game was an absolute hit, despite its seemingly prophetic nature, and one that’s well deserving of a sequel game.
Death Stranding 2 will continue the story of the original game, with what appears to be an older Sam Bridges, a character portrayed by Norman Reedus, and Fragile, portrayed by Lea Seydoux from No Time to Die. There are also weird octopus babies, mechs, and giant floating sculptures, all of which are pretty normal for a video game produced by the legendary Hideo Kojima.
