The Best Super Mario Game Is Finally Coming To Switch
Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 is coming to Nintendo Switch Online.
Though Nintendo stated that it isn’t releasing new hardware any time soon, the company is still dedicated to bringing some of its most iconic gaming titles to Nintendo Switch Online. The company announced the addition of the remaining Super Mario games from its Game Boy Advance platform to Nintendo Switch Online on May 26, including the best Super Mario game ever—Super Mario World.
As reported by VGC, Nintendo announced that Super Mario Advance, Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2, and Yoshi’s Island: Super Mario Advance 3 will become available on Nintendo Switch Online starting next week. The games are set to join the previously added titles, such as Super Mario Advance 4: Super Mario Bros 3. which dropped on the platform in February this year when Nintendo launched its Game Boy library for Switch Online + Expansion Pack members after the official library was shut down.
This is good news for Mario fans since all three games, including Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2, are now accessible once again on Nintendo Switch. While Game Boy and Game Boy Color games require only a standard Switch Online subscription, which costs $20 a month, Game Boy Advance games, including the aforementioned titles, will require the Expansion Pack add-on, priced at $50. It might seem like a lot, but the add-on also grants access to Nintendo’s extensive Nintendo 64 and Sega libraries, which contains some really awesome games.
Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 is a 2002 Game Boy Advance port of the popular 1990’s Super Mario World, which dropped on Nintendo Switch’s much older brother, the Super Nintendo Entertainment System from 1990. It’s worth mentioning that SNES, despite being more than 30 years old, still has a very active modding community. In fact, some companies are making third-party circuit boards for those repairing and restoring SNES consoles—though some parts still have to be salvaged from the original consoles.
Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 for Nintendo Switch, is pretty much the same game as the original. The premise revolves around Bowser taking over Dinosaur Island, with Mario and Luigi tasked with stopping him. However, they’re not alone on their adventure, as Yoshi is along for the ride.
This gaming classic also includes the option to play through the entire game as Luigi, with all of his Super Mario Advance abilities, ported over to Super Mario World. The original game was widely praised by both critics and gamers upon its release, especially as a faithful recreation of the original SNES game.
Besides the upcoming Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 for Nintendo Switch, the platform will soon house additional games from Nintendo’s Game Boy product lineup, including 2001’s The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Seasons and The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages—both massive hits—as well as 1998’s Pokemon: Trading Card Game, and 2000’s Kirby Tilt & Tumble. This also includes 2004’s Kirby and the Amazing Mirror, 2003’s Fire Emblem: The Blazing Blade, 2001’s F-Zero Maximum Velocity, and 2001’s Golden Sun.
Super Mario World: Super Mario Advance 2 for Nintendo Switch Online is scheduled to launch on May 26, 2023.
