See Bella Ramsey Added To The Last Of Us Part II
Gamers have created a new mod for The Last of Us, Part II that lets you play as a version of Ellie who looks identical to Bella Ramsey.
The Last of Us television series, adapted from the same-name and critically acclaimed gaming franchise, is nearing its release date. To celebrate the release of one of the most-anticipated television series, gaming modders have added Bella Ramsey, an English actress portraying Ellie in the upcoming adaptation, to The Last of Us Part II video game, reimagining the entire release as if Bella had played Ellie all along. We’re not going to lie; the results are stunning, as you can see from the video included below.
The mod was created by Alejandro Bielsa, aka Vontadeh, and it effectively gives The Last of Us Part II Ellie a Bella Ramsey skin. The videos showcasing the mod are popping out left and right, so if you’re going to watch them, be advised that they also contain spoilers. According to Vontadeh, a lot of care went into the mod’s creation, but it’s far from being perfect, as is best shown in sections in which Ellie isn’t too expressive or emotional.
Transforming Ellie into Bella Ramsey proved challenging during expressive scenes, as it resulted in the original character model showing through the overlaying skin.
Still, for all the mods we’ve witnessed over the years, this one is above decent. Interestingly enough, Ramsey was told specifically not to play the games so that she could bring authenticity to the role, and we’re only days away from finding out how she performs. On the other hand, some modders went on to turn Joel and Ellie from The Last of Us Part II into Kratos and Atreus from the God of War Ragnarok just recently, which only attests to how massive and sometimes humorous the game modding community really is.
As for the discrepancies between The Last of Us television show and The Last of Us Part II video game in regards to Ramsey’s portrayal, adding Ramsey as Ellie in the sequel game makes so much sense. It’s well known that the first season of the show follows the events of the first game, initially released in 2013, with subsequent releases in 2014 and 2022. While the most recent release launched on PlayStation 5, Sony announced a Microsoft Windows version of the game for March 2023.
However, rumors suggest that Season 2 of The Last of Us television show would faithfully adapt the narrative of The Last of Us Part II, released for PlayStation 4 in 2020 and breaking the record for most Game of the Year awards. Casting Ramsey as Ellie in The Last of Us Part II made a lot more sense for the modders because Ellie is closer to Ramsey’s actual age, which made the modeling process somewhat easier for the modders. We know that Ellie is 19 years old in The Last of Us Part II, which is the same age Ramsey is now.
The Last of Us television show, the largest television production in Canadian history, is scheduled to launch on HBO on January 15, 2023, starring Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey as Joel and Ellie, respectively.
