Zoe Saldana Breaks An Unbelievable Movie Record
Zoe Saldana is the only actor to have starred in four different movies that have grossed over $2 billion each.
Zoe Saldana is now officially the only actor in history to star in four movies that have grossed over $2 billion at the box office. Avatar, Avatar: The Way Of Water, Avengers: Infinity War, and Avengers: Endgame have all crossed the $2 billion threshold, making Saldana the most profitable star in Hollywood, according to CNN. But don’t expect the actor to hold onto this record for long: expect her to break it.
Zoe Saldana has an impressive list of upcoming projects, including Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 and all of the upcoming Avatar sequels (there are at least three more planned), any or all of which could gross over $2 billion worldwide, shattering Zoe’s current record and giving her an impressive lead over any challengers to the crown.
Saldana’s unprecedented feat is nearly matched by her Avatar: The Way Of Water director James Cameron. Both Titanic and the first Avatar grossed over $2 billion worldwide. When The Way Of Water hit the $2 billion mark, it gave Cameron the distinction of being the only director ever to have three movies do so. One film shy of Saldana.
Of course, it’s not inconceivable that an outsider could match or even outdo Saldana’s claim to fame. Zoe Saldana isn’t the only actor to star in both Infinity War and Endgame. The majority of the MCU’s stable acting talent appeared in both movies, meaning dozens of actors are at least halfway there.
Any member of the Avengers could easily star in another blockbuster or two. Both Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame movies star mega talents like Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Pratt, and Scarlett Johansson, all huge box office draws in their own right. What are the chances James Cameron taps one of the above actors to lend some of their star power to the Avatar franchise?
Still, it would be hard to match Zoe Saldana’s white-hot streak, even in the unlikely event some other MCU star did cross over into the Avatar universe. That’s because, in addition to the Avatar films, the Avengers series, and the Guardians of the Galaxy franchise, Saldana is also a part of another blockbuster movie franchise: Star Trek.
Zoe Saldana is set to star in the fourth entry in the J.J. Abrams-produced Star Trek reboot series of movies later this year. While Star Trek, Star Trek Into Darkness, and Star Trek Beyond weren’t quite as successful as either the Avatar or Avengers films, they haven’t exactly been box office slouches either. And while it might seem odd to assume that the fourth film in a franchise would be the first one to score over $2 billion dollars at the box office, it’s not completely unheard of. Avengers: Infinity War was the third film in the Avengers series when it grossed $2 billion. Endgame, the fourth Avengers movie, made even more money.
Whether it’s Avatar 3, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3, Star Trek 4, or one of her other upcoming projects, something is going to give Zoe Saldana a fifth $2 billion grossing movie. To paraphrase Saldana’s Endgame co-star, she is inevitable.
