James Cameron’s masterpiece is confirmed for a sequel, and the stars of the film are more than ecstatic for the big reveal to fans in theaters. Avatar was a huge box office hit when the movie was released back in 2009. Avatar 2 is set to release in theaters this year, and Zoe Saldana is one of the main stars in the film. Saldana recently saw some footage from the second installment and was brought to tears after watching only 20 minutes of the flick.
In an interview with People, Zoe Saldana discussed the upcoming Avatar sequel and how she is more than thrilled to not only be a part of the project but also excited for fans to see the final product. According to the publication, Saldana discussed her reaction when she was able to view about 20 minutes of footage of the movie. “…I was speechless. I was moved to tears,” Saldana stated. If the actress was moved to tears, the fans definitely better prepare for an emotional and mind-blowing experience when watching the upcoming sequel. Saldana also tells fans that they need to prepare themselves as the time nears for the film’s official release. According to Variety, Saldana stated, “It’s definitely a leap from the first ‘Avatar,’ so you have to brace yourself for it.”
Although the sequel is being released quite some time after the first film’s debut, James Cameron definitely will put his all into the project. The first film garnered a massive wave of critical success and drew an incredibly large number of audiences to the movie theaters. Cameron directed, wrote, and produced the film. Due to the movie having a mix of new visual effects, the budget of Avatar was around $237 million. However, the box office draw was way over that budget. Worldwide, the film raked in a whopping $2.8 billion dollars. The film had a talented cast, starring Zoe Saldana, Sam Worthington, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang. Avatar also received many nominations and won a few monumental awards, like an Academy Award for Best Art Direction and for Best Visual Effects. With the success of the first film, the sequel is bound to make a huge impact on audiences once again.
