Zendaya is good at everything from desert-fighting in Dune to dissing Doctor Strange to, as it turns out, playing tennis.

Zendaya isn’t showing any signs of slowing down and why should she? At only 25, the actress has plenty of time to bring in those paychecks and then live a leisurely life far from the lights of Hollywood. But, we’re happy that at this moment she’s taking on project after project because it gives us something to look forward to! Most recently, the actress was spotted and filmed donning a tennis skirt and hitting the court to get into the mindset of her newest character in Luca Guadagnino’s Challengers.
The video shows Zendaya with her hair pulled back into a braided ponytail and rocking an all-white tennis look, complete with fresh sneaks. As she walks back from center court, she swings the racket by her side before gearing up to take another swing. According to the filmographer, the Marvel actress has a knack for the game, specifically when it comes to backhanded strokes.
Her new role will see the Spider-Man: No Way Home actress taking on the life of Tashi Donaldson, the wife and coach of tennis all-star, Art Donaldson, who will be played by Mike Faist. The true story rom-dram-edy will follow the pair through one of Donaldson’s losing streaks. Regardless of her husband’s recent bad luck, Tashi signs Art up to play in the Challenger event but soon finds herself regretting her actions when she learns that her current beau will be facing off against one of her ex-flames. Josh O’Connor will also star in the feature that’s due out in August of next year. Adding even more credits to her name, Zendaya will also serve the film as one of its producers.
Along with the current filming of Challengers, Zendaya is also busy learning her lines for the follow-up to Denis Villeneuve’s 2021 blockbuster hit, Dune. She’ll reprise her role in the sci-fi epic that’s currently in the pre-production stages. Meanwhile, we can expect to see her head back to the halls of East Highland High School as Rue for another season of HBO’s Euphoria sometime in the near-ish future.
From comedies to dramas to romance pieces, Zendaya has appeared in every genre under the sun, but this will be the first dramatic sports story that audiences will see her in – unless, of course, you count Space Jam: A New Legacy. The role of Tashi Donaldson will put the actress under physical training like no other part has asked of her. Although they make it look easy, the athleticism put forth by tennis players is of the highest degree. There’s of course the overheads, serves, and other strokes, but the amount of sprinting that goes into working your way around the court is something people don’t think about.
Lucky for her, Zendaya already looks to be in shape and ready to serve up another winner for her fans to see. Judging by the lack of panting in the video, which you can see above, this is a role that she’s been hitting the gym and preparing for quite some time.
