There have been a ton of beloved actors who have joined the MCU since it was first kicked off with The Incredible Hulk and Iron Man. We’ve had everyone from relatively unknown actors to well-respected Oscar winners. There’s seemingly no actor that the MCU can’t draw in. Now you can definitely add Zac Efron to that list. While promoting his new film Firestarter, the actor expressed his interest in joining the Marvel franchise.
Zac Efron certainly has the superhero jaw and build, so it’s definitely not too much of a stretch to imagine him joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In fact, many fans were pulling for him to portray Adam Warlock in the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3. That role ended up going to Will Poulter, so Efron will have to be cast elsewhere. Efron already has his Disney credentials after playing Troy Bolton in the High School Musical films. Though Efron started off his career as a teen heartthrob, he has undoubtedly expanded his resume since his Disney channel beginnings. Since Marvel is owned by the House of Mouse, maybe they’ll find a way to fold Efron into their superhero universe. Check out what Zac Efron had to say in the interview:
If Zac Efron does enter the MCU, who could he play? There are definitely a variety of possibilities for the actor. Though Adam Warlock is no longer in the cards, fans have thrown out the possibility of him playing someone like Nova. With plans to bring Nova into the MCU in some capacity, this is definitely a possibility. A more concrete possibility might be casting Efron as The Human Torch in the upcoming Fantastic Four movie. That movie is definitely in the works, despite recently losing its director. Zac Efron might be the perfect fit for the brash Johnny Storm.
Of course, the introduction of the X-Men into the MCU proper also opens up a ton of possibilities. Efron perfectly fits the look of characters like Cyclops. His charisma would certainly help him portray one of the stalwart members and frequent leaders of the X-Men. Then again, the MCU could cast Efron in a role that no one has considered and it would be the perfect fit. Just look at Harry Styles as Eros. Essentially, Kevin Fiege knows pretty well what he’s doing at this point, so if there are plans to bring Zac Efron into the MCU, he’ll probably have a good idea of what to do.
For his part, Zac Efron says he would jump at the opportunity if the right character comes along. In the meantime, you’ll be able to see Zac Efron in theaters again very soon with his movie Firestarter being released on May 13. The Stephen-King adaptation tells the story of a young girl named Charlie (Ryan Kiera Armstrong) who can set things on fire with her mind. Zac Efron plays the girl’s father. Firestarter is directed by Keith Thomas and also stars Gloria Reuben, Kurtwood Smith, Sydney Lemmon, Michael Greyeyes, Tina Jung, Neven Pajkic, and more.
