Yellowstone Star Reveals The Horrible Future Of Season 5
There is every possibility Luke Grimes’ character could be killed off in Yellowstone Season 5 because the series is just that low on survival guarantees. In a recent chat with People, the former True Blood actor said he is holding Kayce Dutton’s fate in an open hand approaching Season 5. That is, as soon as there is a Season 5 to approach.
“Here’s the thing with Yellowstone and my character: Hope doesn’t happen, I just learned to take it as it comes, and that’s it.”
Luke Grimes discussing Yellowstone Season 5
With the current SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes, no filming has taken place for Yellowstone Season 5, which was already slated to be squeezed tightly into star Kevin Costner‘s packed schedule. All of that will likely have to be renegotiated once the picket lines clear out and production moves forward, following what will hopefully be an equitable and honorable deal with AMPTP, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers. While we’re hopeful in that real-world struggle, for Kayce Dutton, Grimes says, “Hope doesn’t happen.”
That, of course, is because Yellowstone has no fear of sending its characters to their demise, leading fans to wonder who’s getting killed in Season 5. After Jamie Dutton (Wes Bentley) murdered his birth father, Garrett Randall (Will Patton), at the end of last season, it’s hard to know what to expect next. It has even been widely speculated that Kevin Costner’s John Dutton will not survive the series last season. As with anything regarding the Western juggernaut’s swan song, there are no answers to that question either.
Yellowstone’s death rate has gone up, to the point where even Kevin Costner and Wes Bentley may be killed off when the show returns.
The potential plot for Yellowstone Season 5 is a closely guarded secret. It is understandable for such a phenomenally successful series that keeps its audience hanging, waiting to see what shocking turn of events will transpire next.
Of course, there is more to come for fans as the franchise continues to spawn spin-offs like the critically acclaimed Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford limited series 1923. There are also plans for an unnamed sequel series, potentially as early as this December, starring Matthew McConaughey in an unknown role.
As long as there are Duttons to imagine and an interested audience, there will surely be more Yellowstone stories to tell, even beyond Season 5. For his part, though, Grimes’ interest isn’t limited to his character, who, in the Season 4 finale, had just returned from a four-day spiritual journey. He’s currently starring in Happiness for Beginners, a Netflix film in which he stars alongside Ellie Kemper, the brilliant comedic actor, and star of Unsinkable Kimmy Schmidt, Bridesmaids, and The Office.
Even if Jaycee Dutton is killed off during Yellowstone Season 5, Luke Grimes has a growing career to fall back on, including a starring role in a Netflix movie.
The actor says the film is a departure from his other projects like Yellowstone, which he calls a bit more “dramatic” and “intense.” In the new movie, Grimes stars as a doctor who goes on a wilderness retreat, only to form an unexpected connection with a divorced woman (Kemper). The romantic comedy may be a long way off in tone from the Western series, but the two share outdoor locales in common, something that suits Grimes just fine. Calling himself, “outdoorsy,” the actor says this new role seemed like a perfect fit.
As fans await the arrival of Yellowstone Season 5 and its surely intense and dramatic finale, they can enjoy seeing Grimes both out of and in his element in Happiness for Beginners.
