Kevin Costner Out Of Yellowstone, But Another Star Is Ready To Die
Wes Bentley recently said that he has been ready for his Yellowstone character, Jamie Dutton, to die since the series began.
There’s a lot at stake for the Dutton family when Yellowstone returns with the second part of its fifth season. Following a bumpy first lineup of episodes for the characters, the show’s return has lots of fans talking and theorizing about who may be knocked off next, with a lot of signs pointing toward the downfall of Wes Bentley’s Jamie Dutton. Further fanning the flames, Bentley recently spoke with TVLine to say that his character is “ready to die” and that the possible demise of anyone is “always a possibility.”
With Kevin Costner likely to leave the series to eye-up projects outside of Yellowstone, there’s a very good chance that John will be getting whacked at the tail end of Season 5, something fans have been heavily speculating since the first half bowed out on January 1, 2023. And, with his theoretical downfall, there’s a big chance that Jamie’s time is also ticking. As Jamie goes further off the deep end in what he’ll do for power and control, there’s a high probability that he’ll wind up taking things into his own hands, which would undoubtedly have major repercussions against the character.
Bentley plays the adopted Dutton family son, Jamie, who, despite his constant attempts, is always seen as less than by his adoptive father, John Dutton (Kevin Costner). In recent episodes of Yellowstone, Jamie was pushed back by John after having his dreams of becoming a governor pulled out from under him. Instead, John nabs the political spot and takes control as the newly instated governor of Montana, with Jamie now having a major “change of perspective” towards the man he once admired.
The family at the center of Yellowstone has certainly faced their fair share of threats over the show’s five-season run. From the very top of the production, it was clear that no members of the Dutton family were safe, with major character kill-offs being a mainstay of the storyline. With so much left up in the air for what will happen throughout the rest of Season 5, many enemies have it out for the Duttons.
Filming for the second part of the latest season was to begin sometime soon, with a premiere date expected over the summer. As we mentioned, with Kevin Costner’s changing schedule, and new opportunities on the horizon, it’s been a challenge for the cast and crew to nail down a time to continue rolling the award-winning series forward. Luckily for fans of Yellowstone, even if each member of the Dutton family gets picked off and the show doesn’t go into a sixth season, there are plenty of other ways to get your fix of the Montana ranch.
Yellowstone prequel series 1923, led by Harrison Ford and Helen Mirren, was an immediate hit and recently received a second season renewal. Taking place in 1923, the show follows the early days of the Dutton’s takeover of the ranch and acts as a sequel to last year’s 1883. The story will also continue by way of two spinoffs: Yellowstone: 1883: The Bass Reeves Story and Yellowstone: 6666.
