Yellowstone Star Downplays Kevin Costner Exit And Teases Ending
We’ve been waiting for what feels like forever for the final episodes of Yellowstone. All most people think of when anticipating Season 5 Part 2 is how exactly the show will handle Kevin Costner’s controversial departure. Well, according to Luke Grimes, the loss of the Dutton family patriarch doesn’t have much of an effect on the finale, which Grimes calls “unpredictable” and “satisfying.”
Rolling With The Punches
Luke Grimes portrays the fan-favorite Kayce Dutton in Yellowstone, son of Kevin Costner’s John Dutton. The 40-year-old actor discussed Costner’s departure and the series ending in a recent interview with Newsweek. Not wanting to dive into the controversial issues surrounding Costner’s exit, Grimed said, “All I know is what happened, happened, and the show rolled with the punches.”
Luke Grimes On The Series Finale
The Yellowstone actor even delivered some details about the long-awaited final episodes of Season 5. But don’t get your hopes up: Luke Grimes isn’t spoiling any details. On how the show handles John Dutton’s absence, Grimes said that the cast and crew were able to finish things in a way that will “really work for everybody.” As for the actual ending, he exclaimed that it’s something “unpredictable and satisfying.”
Yellowstone Is A Massive Hit
Yellowstone has been a massive hit for Paramount since first airing in 2018. With every new season, the neo-western drama amassed millions of new viewers. When the first part of Season 5 rolled out in 2022, the premiere episode drew in nearly 16 million viewers, making it the most-watched show of the year.
Kevin Costner’s Exit
While Luke Grimes may not have much to say about Kevin Costner’s departure, we do know that the news surrounding his exit was quite tumultuous. Rumors began swirling that Paramount was canceling Yellowstone after it was reported that Costner said he would only commit to one week to shoot the final half of Season 5.
While Costner’s lawyer denied the one week rumor, other sources close to production said that series creator Taylor Sheridan, Paramount, and the John Dutton actor were butting heads over scheduling and pay. Finally, Costner cleared the air by confirming he would not be returning to the final episodes of the series, citing scheduling conflicts with his passion project film franchise, Horizon.
Season 5 Part 2
Last we saw Luke Grimes’ Kayce and the rest of the Duttons, a family war broke out as Jamie Dutton broke all ties with his family and set out on a mission to remove his father from the governor’s office. Now that we know Costner won’t appear in Season 5 Part 2, fans have been speculating how the series will explain his absence. Many theories suggest that he will be killed off at the hands of his son, Jamie.
But if Luke Grime’s comments on the finale are to be believed, the conclusion won’t be as simple as that.
As of now, there is no confirmed return date for Season 5 Part 2, but the final episodes are likely to release in 2025.
