Yellowstone Season 4: It’s Still Happening

I know how it ends. I know how the series ends, and you have to move in a straight line toward that end.

Yellowstone season 4

Let’s make this point perfectly clear. There WILL be a Yellowstone season 4 of the Paramount Networks super hit and Kevin Costner-led Yellowstone. So, right from the jump, fans can breathe a sigh of relief.

Here’s everything we know about Yellowstone season 4 so far.

THE EARLY RENEWAL FOR YELLOWSTONE SEASON 4

Season 3

The Paramount Network gave a resounding “YES” to more of the Duttons well before season 3 even premiered. This is not only great news for fans of the hit show, it is great news for the actors on the series, and it is also great news for series co-creator Taylor Sheridan who also signed an overall production and development deal with ViacomCBS’ Entertainment & Youth Brands, which includes a number of projects.

Sheridan’s first new project out of the shoot is called Mayor of Kingstown, a scripted drama much like Yellowstone. It follows a family but instead of having Montana as the backdrop, the Mayor will have small-town Michigan to call home.

A 2021 HIT

The Kevin Costner hit proved to be a great success in 2021, despite the fact that June came and went without a Yellowstone season 4 release date. The series proved to be one of the most streamed of the year.

YELLOWSTONE SEASON 4 AND BEYOND

Yellowstone season 4

Back to Yellowstone. So, with that out of the way and fans knowing Yellowstone season 4 is coming their way, will that be it? Just four?

Sheridan told Deadline his thoughts on potentially more than four. “Well, I know how it ends. I know how the series ends, and you have to move in a straight line toward that end. You can’t walk in circles, waiting to get there, because the show will stagnate. So, you have to keep moving forward, and there have to be consequences in the world, and there has to be an evolution toward a conclusion. Can that be another two seasons beyond this? It could. I don’t see this as a procedural show. So, it’s not something that we could extend indefinitely. I don’t think anyone would want to do that; you’d cheapen the product. I haven’t had that conversation with the network or the studio yet. I’m sure it’s coming, but I would think that you would want this to end on an upswing as opposed to a plateau or a descent.”

So there could be more than four, but nothing seems certain.

YELLOWSTONE AT 3

Next Season

We are more than halfway through season three on our way to Yellowstone season 4. The hit show just cleared episode seven of the ten-episode season and there will be not one spoiler given. But, it’s building to what looks to be an explosive ending to another remarkable season.

With Jamie and Beth’s “issue” fully out on the table, where their sibling relationship goes is anyone’s guess. There also has to be some trepidation as it concerns Kayce and Monica. Luke Grimes (Kayce) spoke to CinemaBlend about it. “I don’t think fans of Yellowstone should ever expect to ‘breathe easy’ when it comes to their relationship, that’s just life. Also, as far as their future goes, I have no idea either. I’m on this ride, too. I’d like to see them end up staying together through it all. I think there is something good in each of them, at their core, which has held them together through the impossible.”

There are plenty of more questions to be answered and with the knowledge that there is a season four in the works, chances are a few questions will have to wait for season four to be answered. But we don’t mind, just give us more.

THE WHO

Yellowstone season 4

Well, seeing as that season three still has a few episodes remaining, the who will be the big question. Who survives to Yellowstone season 4? Who doesn’t? Yellowstone and Sheridan and Costner don’t seem to worry about shocking fans and losing key players, it’s been done in the past, so don’t ever count out the show losing a big star. They also have a way of filling those shoes with other big names.

THE 2 PLANNED SPINOFF SERIES

Y: 1883

While Paramount is being slow to release the fourth season of Yellowstone, they are doing things to capitalize on its success, including getting two different spinoff series off the ground.

The first will be Yellowstone: 1883. That series hasn’t announced any cast, but is a prequel series with a solid showrunner in Taylor Sheridan, a co-creator for the original series.

We know even less about the second spinoff series, mostly only that Paramount is throwing around the idea. The show doesn’t yet have an official title, but they’re currently working with 6666. The number is a reference to another ranch.

A YELLOWSTONE SEASON 4 RELEASE DATE

With the first three seasons all premiering in June of their respective years (2018, 2019, and 2020) it seemed highly likely that season four would follow the same pattern and be a go for June 2021. An Instagram account for the show posted when they finished filming, so the show has been shot.

However, when fans expected the show to premiere in mid-June 2021, the Yellowstone Instagram account posted a Happy Father’s Day post with a photo of the show’s characters and no release date announced.

Fans eager to see Yellowstone season 4 were not happy. The show is still coming though. Paramount has finally committed to bringing the show back in Fall of 2021.

Regardless, fans can be very happy with the fact that Yellowstone season 4 is coming and by all accounts, we may be in store for a season five and six. It is great TV, well written and acted, and as long as there is a story to tell, it should be told.
