Yellowstone Star Continues Run By Joining Spinoff Western Series
Yellowstone star Mo Brings Plenty has been cast in the 1883 spinoff Lawmen: Bass Reeves.
Yellowstone star Mo Brings Plenty has officially joined the cast of the upcoming 1883 spin-off Lawmen: Bass Reeves. Created by Taylor Sheridan, the series is based on the life of Bass Reeves, the first black Deputy U.S. Marshal West of the Mississippi River. Other actors who have signed onto the project as recurring characters include Dale Dickey, Margot Bingham, and Tosin Morohunfola.
Yellowstone alum Mo Brings Plenty will portray Minco Dodge, a Choctaw Native American and a close friend of Bass Reeves, who will be played by David Oyelowo.
Lawmen: Bass Reeves is an anthology series that sets the stage for future iterations, which will explore the captivating stories of other iconic lawmen and outlaws who left a lasting impact on history. Bass Reeves, its first subject, is widely regarded as the greatest frontier hero in American history, who served as a federal peace officer in the Indian Territory during the post-Reconstruction era. Remarkably, Reeves managed to apprehend over 3,000 of the most dangerous criminals without sustaining a single injury.
According to TV Line, Dale Dickey will portray Widow Dolliver, a seasoned woman who has seen it all and refuses to waste her time tolerating foolishness. Margot Bingham will play Sara Jumper, a black Seminole Native American to whom Bass Reeves will owe a debt of gratitude. Tosin Morohunfola will assume the role of Jackson “Jackrabbit” Cole, a former Union soldier turned prisoner who rides alongside Bass Reeves.
Lawmen: Bass Reeves is serving as the fourth spin-off from Yellowstone. Joining the cast for season one are Lauren E. Banks, Forrest Goodluck, Barry Pepper, and Demi Singleton. Donald Sutherland, Dennis Quaid, Joaquina Kalukango, Lonnie Chavis, Rob Morgan, Ryan O’Nan, Grantham Coleman and Justin Hurtt-Dunkley, Shea Whigham, and Garrett Hedlund will appear in guest starring roles.
The series also boasts an impressive lineup of executive producers, including Yellowstone creator Taylor Sheridan, Chad Feehan, David C. Glasser, David Oyelowo, Jessica Oyelowo, David Permut, Christina Alexandra Voros, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, and David Hutkin. Lawmen: Bass Reeves is a collaborative production by MTV Entertainment Studios, 101 Studios, Bosque Ranch Productions, and Yoruba Saxon.
Meanwhile, Yellowstone is set to end with its fifth season. The series, known for its captivating storytelling, premiered on the Paramount Network in June 2018. The story revolves around the Dutton family, the owners of the largest contiguous ranch in the United States. The show delves into their conflicts and power struggles as they navigate their personal lives.
As Yellowstone draws to a close, an untitled sequel series is already in the works. While details regarding the plot and casting remain a closely guarded secret, it was previously announced that Matthew McConaughey was attached to the project. The series is set to premiere on Paramount in December.
