Yellowjackets Season 3 Coming Sooner Than Expected?
Fans of the hit TV series Yellowjackets have reason to rejoice as the show’s highly-anticipated Season 3 is officially back on track, and it’s coming sooner than expected. How soon exactly, we’re not entirely sure. But according to Comic Book, the writers are already back at work following the conclusion of the writers’ strike, crafting compelling plotlines certain to keep viewers on the edge of their seats.
The team behind Yellowjackets started work on Season 3 at the start of the WGA strike, and now that it’s over, they’re already back to work!
The strike had a brief but significant impact on the Yellowjackets Season 3 production schedule. Co-creator Bart Nickerson explained, “We had actually started the first day of the [writers] room on a Monday, and so obviously, we left the room and stopped kind of working on [Yellowjackets] Season 3.” The hiatus on the upcoming season lasted for as long as the strike, which is to say a total of 148 days, but now that it’s over, pre-production has resumed.
One burning question on fans’ minds is what the pre-Yellowjackets Season 3 bonus episode will entail.
The first two Yellowjackets seasons were incredibly successful, resulting in the renewal for Season 3 to be announced before the second season premiered. Season 2 of Yellowjackets had only recently concluded when co-creator Ashley Lyle made a surprise announcement via social media about a bonus episode that will bridge the gap between Seasons 2 and 3. However, the release date for this bonus episode remains undisclosed, though Lyle promises it will premiere before Season 3.
One burning question on fans’ minds is what the pre-Yellowjackets Season 3 bonus episode will entail. Given the series’ penchant for shocking twists and turns, speculating about the content of this special episode is a thrilling endeavor. Other television shows that have released bonus episodes usually debut the bonus as some sort of “very special” episode with a standalone storyline, typically around the holidays. But with the actors’ guild still on strike, it’s unlikely that the studio will be able to pull off creating bonus content before this upcoming holiday season.
Yellowjackets Season 3 has been teased to focus on the surviving girls’ re-entry to society….which we know already has mixed results.
Likely, the bonus episode will debut sometime in the spring or summer of 2024, and Yellowjackets Season 3 will premiere the following fall or winter, as long as there are no more delays holding up the schedule. While the storyline of the bonus episode is anyone’s guess, Yellowjackets director and producer Karyn Kusama offered a hint at what Season 3 might entail.
Kusama teased that the show will delve into the immediate aftermath of the surviving team members returning to society, saying that the concept of “re-entry into the world” was fascinating to her. She claimed that there’s “a whole season worth of material there,” which suggests that this might be what Yellowjackets Season 3 will be about.
The end of the Writers Guild of America strike has brought fantastic news for Yellowjackets enthusiasts because it means that Season 3 will be premiering sooner rather than later. The creative team’s dedication and the show’s impressive track record make it clear that Yellowjackets is a series worth the wait. While an official release date has yet to be announced, there is no doubt that Yellowjackets fans are ready for more heart-pounding adventures with the survivors of Flight 2525.
