It can be easy to forget that, in addition to the billion-dollar behemoth that is the Fast and Furious series, Vin Diesel has a couple of other franchises going for him. There is the Chronicles of Riddick, the science fiction series in which his power is that he can see in the dark really well, and he has stuck around the Guardians of the Galaxy as various versions of Groot for a while now. There is also whatever The Last Witch Hunter was supposed to be, but who can say whether that will ever get a sequel. However, it seems that his dormant XXX series is getting a jump start. According to our trusted and proven sources, not only is XXX 4 in development with Vin Diesel returning, but Jason Momoa might be coming along for the ride.
XXX 4 was announced to be in the works a few years back, but Vin Diesel is a busy man. In general, the XXX series has always taken a backseat to the actor’s other interests. He could not even be bothered to return for 2005’s XXX: State of the Union and was replaced by Ice Cube (with his absence explained by a very spiteful short movie). However, it seems the XXX 4 will definitely have Vin Diesel back in action as extreme sports superspy Xander Cage and it is increasingly likely that Jason Momoa will be joining the series. We hear that Vin Diesel had such a good connection with the Aquaman actor during the production of the upcoming Fast X movie that he wants to bring him aboard one of his other franchises, and it is certain that Diesel is not afraid to add yet another large, muscular man to one of his film projects.
There are no details on what the plot of XXX 4 might be, only that Vin Diesel is definitely back. It has been previously reported that Taiwanese actor and pop star Jay Chou would be joining the cast, but it has not yet been announced whether Samuel L. Jackson (in yet another role as a grim spy mastermind) or Ice Cube would return. Jason Momoa would be a pretty big get for XXX 4, particularly if he does have the reputed chemistry with Vin Diesel. Jason Momoa currently is the lead of the DCEU’s biggest franchise with the Aquaman films, but it remains to be seen whether Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will be able to replicate the unexpectedly enormous box office returns of the first movie.
In addition to Aquaman and the Fast and Furious films, Jason Momoa also has the potential to show back up in Denis Villeneuve’s Dune films. The director has already indicated his interest in adapting the sequel novel Dune Messiah, which involves the resurrection of Jason Momoa’s character Duncan Idaho through cloning. It could be that soon we start seeing a lot more of Jason Momoa in a whole lot of different franchises, but we will likely have to wait and see how the friendship between him and Vin Diesel goes.
