X-Men ’97 Is Officially The Best Marvel Project
It was already quite clear that X-Men ’97 has become quite the crowd-pleaser in only its first season. Though the show was quickly renewed for a second season, it did not need any more momentum to already claim a prestigious spot for a Marvel property. Per the ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, X-Men ’97 currently has a 99 percent approval rating, making it the best-reviewed Marvel product since Disney acquired the brand.
The Best Thing Marvel Has Put Out
It is quite ironic that X-Men ’97 can now be critically called the best thing that Marvel has put out when it is not even officially a part of the MCU. It is especially interesting given how not only the X-Men movies, but also Marvel movies overall have been getting a lot more criticism in recent years. Some of the other Marvel offerings have been trending in the opposite direction, making history for bringing in some of the worst reviews and lowest box office returns of any Marvel property.
Certified Fresh, Beating Out Its Contemporaries
For comparison’s sake, the other Marvel properties that are the closest in positive reception to X-Men ’97 are Ms. Marvel with 98 percent approval on Rotten Tomatoes, followed by Spider-Man: No Way Home which has an audience approval score of 98 percent. So even if it is only by one percent, X-Men ’97 currently sits at the top of the hill as the best of the bunch for Marvel.
Will Deadpool & Wolverine Steal First Place?
However, we are quickly approaching the release date for a movie that could knock off X-Men ‘97’s claim as the best. The only recent X-Men movies that have really resonated with audiences have been the Deadpool movies and Logan. So it is perfect timing that next month on July 26, we will see the two popular heroes have their long-awaited cinematic team-up in Deadpool & Wolverine. The two heroes finally officially joining the MCU is one of the biggest developments Marvel has offered in a while.
A New Reason To Be Excited
However, rather than rooting for any particular movie or show to claim the top spot, Marvel fans are no doubt ecstatic that Marvel Studios is now consistently giving them reasons to be excited again. Part of what has allowed X-Men ’97 to gain the best reviews is that the makers of the show gave fans what they wanted rather than making them wait years for a long-term plan to develop like some of the recent MCU movies have been accused of doing.
A Marvel Renaissance In The Making
Overall, Marvel has some exciting times ahead for fans, with the MCU’s take on The Fantastic Four set for next year. And though it recently lost its latest director, the MCU’s Blade was also supposed to be releasing next year, though it is unclear if recent developments will change that. However, giving fans more of the fresh, popular heroes they have been requesting does seem like the best way to emulate X-Men ‘97’s path to being the best-received Marvel property.
With season two of X-Men ’97 already announced, it will be exciting to see if it can top its predecessor and claim that last percentage point necessary to have a perfect 100% approval rating and truly be the best.
