X-Men ’97 Gets Awful News And Fans Are Furious
Marvel fans got a true injection of excitement when the release of the new animated series X-Men ‘97 was first announced. However, the initial excitement has recently been stifled by a delay. According to The Hollywood Reporter, X-Men ‘97 will now make its debut in early 2024.
The new X-Men Series was originally scheduled for release on Disney+ sometime in the Fall of this year, but fans will have to hold their proverbial horses a bit longer it seems. The unfortunate postponement of the new series is in addition to many television and movie release pushbacks this year.
The second season of What If…? is set for release sometime around Christmas of this year. Echo will be streaming in January 2024, and the release of Agatha has been postponed until the Fall of next year.
It seems Disney+ may have a little too much Marvel on their plate while working to balance the backlash of recent actor and writer strikes alongside a hefty list of big-hitter titles set for release. Their answer for the debacle was to spread the load a bit, so as not to overload audiences with content.
Four different Marvel titles were set to hit the streaming channel in the Fall of 2023: X-Men ‘97, What If…?, Echo, and Agatha: Darkhold Diaries (formerly titled Agatha: Coven of Chaos).

X-Men ‘97 fans have been waiting the longest to see their beloved series continue, as the release of the new series was first announced more than two years ago in 2021. The main appeal of the new X-Men Series is that it is a continuation of the original animated series which began in 1992 and ran until 1997, with many of the original actors returning to voice various characters in the star-studded lineup of heroes.
The new animated X-Men Series is said to be a “spiritual and tonal continuation of the classic 1990s series.” The plot of the new episodes is expected to pick up right where the original series left off. Beau DeMayo (the lead writer of X-Men ‘97) will have some big shoes to fill writing a follow-up to the legendary Stan Lee’s 90s creation of X-Men: The Animated Series, and fans simply can’t wait to see what he brings to the table.
Though fans will now have to wait a bit longer to indulge their childhood interests, the delay is not expected to affect the popularity of X-Men ‘97. The revival of the classic series and the return of some of the founding cast members make X-Men ‘97 too exciting to ignore.

Patience is a virtue X-Men fans have grown to rely on, and it seems the new animated series is a noteworthy exercise in the saying. Tune in to Disney+ when the show drops in early 2024 to see Cal Dodd, Lenore Zann, George Buza, Catherine Disher, Chris Potter, and several other X-Men alumni voice actors rekindle the magic of the original series.
